Type of Mail Allowed for Bedford Heights City Jail
Postcards
The Bedford Heights City Jail allows inmates to receive pre-metered postcards like the type purchased from the post office. They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature.
Envelopes
The Bedford Heights City Jail also allows inmates to receive letters in envelopes as long as they do not contain prohibited items or contraband.

Newspapers
This jail will allow you to mail newspapers to inmates.
Magazines
Magazines are accepted, but must be mailed in. You can send used or new as long as they arrive through the mail the inmate. You cannot bring them to the jail for the inmate.
Books
You may bring softcover books to the jail to drop off for the inmate. You must have the inmate’s first and last name and ID number. Staff suggests a maximum of two books at a time. You are also welcome to mail books from home or go through an online vendor such as Amazon.com.
This jail does allow inmates to receive used books. Each book is examined for contraband and security risks before being given to the inmate.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Bedford Heights City Jail standards will be disposed of.
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.

Important Mail Tips
Mail is always scanned and inspected for contraband, obscenity and other rule infractions.
The only mail you are allowed to bring to the jail and drop of are soft-covered books. All other forms of mail must come through the United States Post Office.
Mail sent through private carriers such as UPS and Fed Ex will not be accepted.
Assume that everything you write will be read by jail staff and can and will be used against you or your inmate in court.
Never write anything about the inmate's court case you wouldn't want read aloud in court.
