Washington County Jail Inmate Bail & Bonds
Washington County bail and bond: the Westview Avenue jail in Marietta
The Washington County Jail is at 101 Westview Avenue, Marietta, off Gilman Avenue, and the Sheriff's Office manages it. Search Washington County Inmate Search to confirm the booking and see the bail. The jail answers at 740-376-7070, extension 0, and its lobby is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Money put on an inmate's account at the lobby is not bail, and this page explains the difference and the steps that do release someone.
1. Is my cousin in the Marietta jail?
Check Washington County Inmate Search by last name. The Sheriff's Office also posts a daily roster, but the search is faster.
If a name is missing, call 740-376-7070 and press extension 0. Give the full name and birth date.
2. What is the jail address in Marietta?
It is at 101 Westview Avenue, Marietta, OH 45750, off Gilman Avenue. The Sheriff's Office mailing address is 309 Fourth Street, Marietta, OH 45750, which is a different location.
The lobby is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
3. Can I leave money at the lobby kiosk to get him out?
No. The kiosk takes cash or a card for an inmate's account, which pays for phone time and commissary. That money does not post bail. You can also add account money by phone at 1-866-345-1884 or online at accesscorrections.com.
Bail is paid to the court or through a licensed bond agent under the amount the court set.
4. So who takes the bail?
Ask the court that holds the case. Call the jail at 740-376-7070 and ask which court has the charge, then call that court's clerk for the amount, hours, and accepted payment.
Municipal and county courts must allow bail by credit card under R.C. 2937.011(I). Ask the clerk how that works in your case.
5. When must a judge decide the amount?
No later than the second court day after the arrest, a bail hearing must be held under R.C. 2937.011(J). If the person is still in jail and has no lawyer, a second hearing is held two court days later with a lawyer appointed at state expense for those who cannot pay.
A holiday weekend adds days between the arrest and the hearing.
6. Will I see him in person?
Visits at this jail are non-contact and done by video only. They must be scheduled in advance, in the lobby or online through ICSolutions. Each inmate may have one visit per week with up to two visitors, and visitors must be 18 unless with a parent or guardian, or are the inmate's lawful spouse.
Visitors are subject to search. The inmate must tell visitors the day and time scheduled.
7. What kinds of bond are there?
The defendant may choose an unsecured bond, a 10 percent cash deposit bond, a surety bond, a bond backed by real estate or securities, or a cash deposit in the full amount, under R.C. 2937.011(C).
On a 10 percent bond the court returns 90 percent of the deposit once the conditions are met.
8. How does a bond agent in Marietta work?
A bond agent holds a license from the Ohio Department of Insurance. R.C. 3905.93 says the agent must charge the premium rate the state has approved and disclose any expense fee.
The agent may not demand title to your home as a condition, and may not solicit families at the jail or courthouse. Keep a copy of everything you sign.
9. Can my house in Washington County be used?
R.C. 2937.011(C)(3) permits a bond secured by real estate. The owner files an affidavit that describes the property, the mortgages, and other bonds signed, and the court must be satisfied that the owner can cover the full bond.
Lawyers cannot serve as sureties. Ask the clerk of the court with the case which papers it needs.
10. Why does the record say bail is denied?
The Ohio Constitution permits no bail only for a capital offense, or a felony with evident proof or great presumption where the person poses a substantial risk of serious physical harm.
A judge must hold a hearing under R.C. 2937.222 and find each element by clear and convincing evidence. Another county's hold or a parole hold can also block a release.
11. What lawyer helps if the family has no money?
Washington County contracts with the Ohio Public Defender for trial defense, and the state office has a branch in this county. Raise it with the judge when you first appear.
A lawyer can ask the court to lower the amount or set conditions, such as monitoring, instead of cash.
12. What if the person held is a teenager?
Call the Sheriff's Office at 740-376-7070 to find out where the youth is held and which juvenile court has the case. Juvenile records are private, so the adult search may not list a minor.
13. What if my cousin skips a hearing?
A warrant may issue and the bond may be forfeited. Missing court can also be punished under R.C. 2937.011(K). If you posted the money, you can ask the court to take the defendant back under R.C. 2937.40.
14. Which payments should I never make?
No court asks for gift cards, crypto, or a payment app. Use the kiosk or accesscorrections.com only for inmate account deposits. If a caller demands bail money, hang up and call 740-376-7070.

How do Bail Bonds work at Washington County Jail
The Washington County Sheriff recommends that you might want to use a bail bond agent licensed to do business in Washington County.
However if you don't want to use a bail bond agent:
- You can always pay a cash bond yourself, or use your home in Washington County, or in some cases the state of Ohio, but the benefit of using a bail bond agent is that they take responsibility for making sure the inmate shows up for court in Washington County, and if they don't, then they take the financial responsibility.
- The typical fee for a bond in Ohio is between 10-20% of the bail amount; usually 15% or less. So if an offender has a bail of $10,000.00, their bond will be $1,500.00.
- Pay by cash, cashier's check, money order or credit card at the Washington County Jail, or the courthouse in Washington County where the offense took place.
Call 740-374-7677 to find out the exact bond (plus other fees) amount, or look it up online by looking up the information on the Washington County inmate locator.
