Beckham County Jail Inmate Search
Beckham County Inmate Search: Locating Someone Held in Sayre
Adults picked up in Elk City, Sayre, Erick or the county's smaller towns are booked into the Beckham County Jail, 108 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662, which the Sheriff's Office runs. The answers below cover finding the person, staying in touch, money and mail, charges, court and release.
Begin with the official inmate lookup. Type the name, then compare ages to rule out a stranger with the same name. Oklahoma's free VINELink also tracks custody status and can send alerts.
No match yet? Phone the jail at 580-928-2121. Staff can confirm a booking, the charges and the bail. Our bail and release page explains paying bail, and our criminal court guide explains hearings.
1. What is the quickest Beckham County jail lookup?
The lookup takes only a minute. Work through it like this:
- Open the official inmate lookup.
- Put in the last and first name. Too few results? Remove the first name or shorten the spelling.
- Compare the age or date of birth so you pick the right record.
- Copy down any booking or ID number. Mail, deposits and calls often need it.
- Phone 580-928-2121 to double check the charges and bail.
Look for the jail in the Sheriff's Office building at 108 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662, with office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Oklahoma's Open Records Act treats jail booking data, such as the name, charge and arrest facts, as open to the public (51 O.S. § 24A.8).
↑ Back to the question list2. Why might a fresh arrest be missing?
A blank result has a few common causes:
- Booking is not finished. Every new arrival gets a health screening at intake, plus paperwork. Give it a few hours, then search again.
- A city holding cell. Elk City police staff their own jailers. State rules let a holding facility keep someone up to 12 hours (OAC 310:670-1-2) before release or a move to the county jail. Reach Elk City police at 580-225-1212.
- Already out, on bail or on a written promise to appear.
- Held elsewhere, in another county, in federal custody or with ICE.
- A different spelling, a middle name or a nickname on the booking.
The surest answer comes from jail staff at 580-928-2121. Keep their legal name and birthday handy for the call.
↑ Back to the question list3. Which neighboring county jails should I call?
An arrest across the county line usually means that county's jail. These neighbors are the likeliest:
- Roger Mills County Jail, 101 Court House Square, Cheyenne, OK 73628, 580-303-6048
- Custer County Jail, 300 North 7th Ave., Arapaho, OK 73620, 580-323-1616
- Greer County Jail, 105 South Pennsylvania, Mangum, OK 73554, 580-782-3065
- Kiowa County Jail, 301 S. Jefferson, Hobart, OK 73651, 580-726-2381
- Harmon County Jail, 105 West Jones Street, Hollis, OK 73550, 580-688-3306
Erick and Texola sit close to the Texas border, so an arrest on the Texas side goes to that Texas county's jail. When you are unsure, start with the Sheriff's Office at 580-928-2121; staff can often say where the person went.
↑ Back to the question list4. Are booking photos released in Oklahoma?
Ask the Sheriff's Office at 580-928-2121 how it handles requests for booking photos. Under the Open Records Act, booking facts are public, including the name, a physical description, the charge and what led to the arrest (51 O.S. § 24A.8). That law does not mention photos by name. Reporters can make the same request.
Photos held by other agencies follow other rules:
- ICE: use the ICE records request page.
- Federal custody: booking photos are generally kept private, though federal marshals sometimes share one, for example to catch a fugitive.
5. How do release or transfer alerts work?
Oklahoma runs VINE, a free service that tracks where a person is held and whether that has changed. It can warn you of a release, a transfer, an escape or a death in custody, and anyone may sign up.
- Visit VINELink for Oklahoma.
- Look up the person by name and choose the matching record.
- Pick how to hear from VINE: email, text, phone or the app.
Phone sign-up runs through 877-654-8463. A move into state prison brings a new DOC number, so register again then. VINE can also show where a protective order stands. Questions about the program go to 405-521-3921. If the record seems missing, ask jail staff.
↑ Back to the question list6. How does bail work in Beckham County?
Oklahoma's constitution gives most accused people a right to bail (Okla. Const. art. II § 8). Apart from a few tickets with a fixed bond, a judge picks the amount. The family can pay it all in cash, hire a licensed bondsman, or pledge real estate. Some people go home on their own signed promise.
Bail can be refused only on certain grave charges, such as violent crimes, and then only with strong proof and no conditions able to keep others safe. A person facing a second DUI must see a judge before leaving. If a different Oklahoma county or city also has a hold, that bond can be posted too, under a 2025 law (HB 1991).
Jail staff at 580-928-2121 can give the amount. Our bail guide walks through every step.
↑ Back to the question list7. Where can families read the booking charges?
Three sources give the charges:
- The jail, at 580-928-2121. In Oklahoma the cause of an arrest is part of the public booking record (51 O.S. § 24A.8).
- ODCR, the court records site the Court Clerk links to. Formal charges appear once the prosecutor files them.
- The Court Clerk, 580-928-3330, in the courthouse at 104 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662.
The booking charge is only a start. The District Attorney's office chooses what to file and can add, drop or reduce counts. That office is in the same courthouse at 104 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662, 580-928-5555.
↑ Back to the question list8. How does an inmate get an OIDS lawyer?
When the family can't afford a lawyer, a judge can appoint one. From inside, they should ask a jailer for the application. Relatives can collect a blank copy from the Court Clerk, 104 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662, 580-928-3330. The judge weighs income, debts and assets.
Appointed lawyers here usually come from the OIDS regional office at 823 Frisco Ave, Clinton, OK 73601, 580-323-2951. OIDS steps in only once a judge names it. A $40 charge comes with the application, though the $40 can be deferred to the end.
The family may hire a private lawyer at any point. Oklahoma's highest criminal court ruled in 2025 that the right to counsel reaches misdemeanors that could lead to jail.
↑ Back to the question list9. How do Beckham County jail visits work?
The jail sets visiting days, hours and sign-up rules, so phone 580-928-2121 before making the trip. Good questions to ask:
- What days and times are open, and how do I book a slot?
- Do visitors get approved ahead of time by the person inside?
- What ID should I bring, and what is not allowed inside?
- Can we use video visits, at the lobby or from home?
Oklahoma jail standards say visitor numbers and visit length may be limited only for security. Any child who visits needs a parent or legal guardian along (OAC 310:670-5-9). Visits take place at 108 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662. See our visitation page for more.
↑ Back to the question list10. How can I send them money?
A jail account covers things like snacks, hygiene items and phone time. Deposit options can change, so check with the jail at 580-928-2121:
- Is there a lobby kiosk, a web deposit or a pay-by-phone line?
- Can a money order come by mail, and whose name goes on it?
- Are there weekly limits or service fees?
- Which ID number has to be included?
Never slip cash into an envelope, and save each receipt. Our money page and commissary page explain more.
↑ Back to the question list11. How do calls, texts and email work?
State jail rules give each new inmate at least two local or collect calls after booking (OAC 310:670-5-1). So watch for a call within a few hours, and be ready to accept a collect charge.
Later calls run through the jail's phone provider. Ask the jail at 580-928-2121:
- Which company carries the calls and how to open an account
- Whether tablets, messages, email or video calls are offered
- What calls cost and the hours they are allowed
Treat every jail call as one others may hear, and leave the case out of it. More is on our phone page and email page.
↑ Back to the question list12. Can I mail Beckham County inmates?
Yes. Oklahoma's jail rules put no limit on the amount of mail, but staff may inspect it for contraband (OAC 310:670-5-9). Call 580-928-2121 first. Confirm the mailing address and whether letters need a booking number. Ask, too, if photos get through.
Street address of the jail: 108 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662. Some tips:
- Address the letter with the person's legal name. Add a return address with your name.
- Leave cash out of every letter.
- Legal mail, meaning letters from a court or the person's attorney, must be opened in front of them. Outgoing legal mail is never opened.
Our mail page has more.
↑ Back to the question list13. How is seized property handed back?
Belongings taken at booking go on an inventory and into storage. At release, staff compare the items to that list, hand them back and get the person's signature (OAC 310:670-5-1).
To collect things for someone who is still inside, phone 580-928-2121 first. Check if a signed note from the person, naming you, is needed, which ID you need and what time to come. Bring photo ID to 108 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662. Ask as well about any item kept as evidence.
↑ Back to the question list14. Who checks on an inmate's health?
Each person is screened for health problems right at booking. The jail must explain how to ask for care. A written request must get the person seen by licensed medical staff inside 48 hours, or sooner when urgent (OAC 310:670-5-8). Adequate medical care for illness or injury from arrest onward is also required (74 O.S. § 192).
Worried about their health? Try these steps:
- Call the jail at 580-928-2121 and ask to speak to a supervisor.
- Pass along medicine names, the doctor and the pharmacy so staff can check them.
- Urge the person to make the request in writing.
For care that seems unsafe, contact the state's jail inspectors at the Oklahoma State Department of Health, 123 Robert S. Kerr Ave., Suite 1702, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, 405-426-8170, or use the jail complaint form.
↑ Back to the question list15. Could an open warrant be waiting?
Deputies from the Sheriff's Office serve county warrants. Phone 580-928-2121 and ask for Records/warrants. On ODCR, a name search may turn up a court case with a bench warrant. Elk City's court keeps a city warrant list, renewed every Sunday night. Statewide pages include the Oklahoma 10 Most Wanted, DOC Orange Alerts on escapes, and the Marshals' 15 Most Wanted. The safest fix is surrender alongside a lawyer at the court behind the warrant, or a call to that court about bond or a new date. District Court Clerk: 104 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662, 580-928-3330.
↑ Back to the question list16. Where do I find court dates?
State case hearings are set by the District Court. To find a date:
- Look up the name on ODCR and open the case to view its hearings.
- Call the Court Clerk at 580-928-3330. The office at 104 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662 is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., lunch hour included.
- For an Elk City ticket, call the Municipal Court at 580-225-4653. It meets on Thursdays at 422 E. 3rd Street, Elk City, OK 73644.
Missing court is costly. Once a bond is forfeited, Oklahoma law gives the court ten days to issue an arrest warrant (59 O.S. § 1332). Our court guide explains each hearing.
↑ Back to the question list17. How do I find a federal prisoner?
The Western District of Oklahoma handles federal cases from here. Here is how to track the person:
- Before trial, federal deputy marshals hold the person. Their Oklahoma City office is at 200 Northwest 4th Street, Room 2022, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, 405-231-4206. People may be housed at the Federal Transfer Center, 7410 S. MacArthur Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73169, 405-682-4075, or in a county jail.
- At the detention hearing, a federal judge rules on whether the person can leave before trial (18 U.S.C. 3142). The clerk's office is at 200 NW 4th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, 405-609-5000.
- After sentencing, the Bureau of Prisons runs custody, and its BOP inmate locator shows the facility.
Federal pretrial officers work from 215 Dean A. McGee Avenue, Room 201, Oklahoma City, OK 73102, 405-609-5800.
↑ Back to the question list18. What if ICE takes custody?
When ICE wants someone, it hands the jail a detainer, Form I-247A. The usual sequence:
- The jail can hold the person up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
- ICE officers arrive and shift the person into immigration custody.
- Many go to the Cimarron Correctional Facility, 3200 S. Kings Hwy., Cushing, OK 74023, 918-225-3336. Some pass through the Federal Transfer Center, 7410 S. MacArthur Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73169, 405-682-4075.
- Track them on the ICE Online Detainee Locator.
Cimarron's detainee line answers from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Have the full name, other names used, birth date, birth country and A-number handy. ICE's Oklahoma City office is at 1220 Sovereign Row, Oklahoma City, OK 73108, 405-219-3199. HB 4156, the state law that made unlawful presence a crime in Oklahoma, is on hold for now, since a federal court paused it while the state appeals.
↑ Back to the question list19. How do I track a state prisoner?
A sentenced person waits in the county jail for DOC pickup, about six to nine months by DOC's count. Next, a DOC assessment and reception center sets the custody level, and a prison that matches it comes after.
- Search the DOC Offender Lookup by name.
- Note the ODOC number. Letters to a prison need the name and that number.
- For questions, ask the prison for the person's case manager. If you don't know who that is, the records officer can help.
DOC explains sending money and visits on its own pages. Our Oklahoma prison directory lists every facility. The DOC main line is 405-425-2500, at 4345 North Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
↑ Back to the question list20. Where are Beckham County teens held?
Adult jails keep teens only briefly. Oklahoma's rule caps it at six hours for identification, processing or transfer, with the youth fully separated from grown inmates (OAC 310:670-5-5). If the teen can't go home, the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) finds a bed at one of the youth detention centers it licenses. None of the state's 11 centers sits in this county, so the drive may be long.
For a teen's location, phone OJA at 405-530-2800 or the Sheriff's Office at 580-928-2121. OJA's office is at 2501 N. Lincoln Blvd., Suite 500, Oklahoma City, OK 73105. A detained youth should see a judge by the next court day in most cases.
↑ Back to the question list21. Which Beckham County agency arrested them?
The arresting agency holds the arrest report and anything it seized. These agencies work in the county:
- Sheriff's Office (rural areas and county roads): 108 South 3rd Street, Sayre, OK 73662, 580-928-2121
- Elk City Police Department: 422 E. 3rd Street, Elk City, OK 73644, non-emergency 580-225-1212
- Sayre Police Department: 580-928-2122; ask the dispatcher for the station address
- Erick, Carter and Texola: the Sheriff's Office can say which officers handled an arrest there
- Sweetwater (the small corner inside this county): the Sheriff's Office takes patrol questions
- Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Troop H, based in Clinton, for highway arrests: 580-323-2424
- Southwestern Oklahoma State University Campus Police (main campus in Weatherford): 580-774-3111
