Leflore County Juvenile Information

Accepting juveniles ages 15-18, both male and female, the Leflore County Juvenile Detention Center offers a secure facility for juvenile offenders. This secure facility houses juvenile offenders that have been arrested and are waiting for their court date if there is reason to suspect they will not attend their court date otherwise. It also houses those who have been adjudicated and assigned a period of detention as part of that process, or if they are considered to be a danger to themselves or to the community. Each of the juveniles who are within the center will receive all of their meals in a healthy and balanced diet, will have access to books for reading and homework, classes for their academic studies, access to a common area where they are able to play games, read, and interact with other juveniles, and medical care. The medical area provides all prescriptions and ongoing or emergent medical care, and there is access to dental care as necessary. Mental health is also a key focus of programs, providing youth with the tools to heal trauma, to learn new coping strategies, manage their anger or other emotions, and have positive social interactions with those around them. Mail: 201 Veterans Avenue Talihina, Oklahoma, 74571 Staff may check each piece of mail for contraband and have the right to remove all contraband before it is delivered to the resident. Phones: Outgoing phone calls can be made from the juveniles to their parents or guardians, but they may not call into the facility to speak to one of the residents. Visitation: Visits are a key part of family unity and parents and guardians are encouraged to visit each week during the allotted hours.
