About the Woods County Jail
The Sheriff of Alva, Oklahoma works in conjunction with Woods County Health, mental health professionals, and other service providers to create a safe and secure environment to house inmates. Each person who is arrested within the area, whether by the local Marshall, the Sheriff office, or federal arrests made in the county. Medical care and mental health care are both available any time needed, including overnight and weekends. All meals are provided and nutritionally balanced for each inmate for the duration of their incarceration. Both male and female inmates are housed in this location, and the 38 inmate capacity includes both. Juveniles are not housed at this facility, rather they are taken directly to the local juvenile facility for their booking and holding procedures. After booking has been completed, including fingerprinting, mug shots, updated contact information and identifying marks, either the officers will inform detainee of their bail or of their bail hearing that must be held within 48 hours. Only the most serious charges are denied any bail at all. Inmates will then be able to make a phone call to have themselves bailed out, let family know where they are, or reach out to a lawyer. They will then be shown to their cell. Visitors can be approved in advance and are allowed to visit each week during the duration of incarceration, unless that privilege is suspended due to behaviour. Phone and video visits are provided by citytelecoin.com, and this allows for phone calls to be made during daytime hours as early as 7:30am and sometimes until or even past 9pm depending upon the housing location and classes the inmate is participating in.
