Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention Center

Through a contract with Linn County, the Linn-Benton Juvenile Center houses up to 20 juveniles, with Benton receiving a contracted number of beds (currently 4) based upon their need for the year. This facility is located within the Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility that is operated by the Oregon Youth Authority that serves females who are in need of long term detention. Only law enforcement, court order, or probation officers who find a violation, are able to admit youth to the facility. The goals of the facility are to maintain safety for the public, teach accountability, and to offer opportunities for change through appropriate social skills, cultural awareness, respect, and education. A regular daily schedule is in place to encourage discipline and to promote safety within the facility, with juveniles engaging in sports, group and individual activities, schoolwork, and any medical or mental health treatments. Cognitive Restructuring is used throughout to assist juveniles to address risky thinking and encourage prosocial and positive decisions instead. The juveniles themselves are engaged in setting goals for their own behavior improvements and identifying consequences for behaviors, which allows them to engage in programs and practices that will help reach those goals.
