Remote Visitation with an Inmate - Instructions

Washington County Detention Center uses the services of Inmate Sales, also known as Combined Public Communication (CPC) for visitation communication between inmates and their friends and family members.

In order to have a successful video visit, these are the steps to follow:

Make sure you have a device a speaker, a camera and a connection to the internet.
Register with Inmate Sales.

Washington County Detention Center on-site Inmate Visitation Schedule

On-site visits take place at the Washington County Justice Center

First, you must register with Inmate Sales, and then schedule a visit.
Inmates are given three (3) free 20-minute onsite video visitation sessions per week.
Remote visitation is $0.20 per minute.
Proper attire is required. No low-cut blouses, tank tops, short skirts or dresses, tight shorts, hats or any other form of provocative dress will be allowed. Shirt and shoes must be worn.
All visitors must provide proper state or government issued photo identification (i.e. driver’s license, foreign id or passports) for inmate visitation.
On Site video visitation is available at no cost.
A video visit lasts 20 minutes.
Visitors may only use this system on the inmates assigned visitation day, whenever the inmates have free time.
All rules set forth for non-contact visitation shall be adhered to when using the video visitation system.
Any lewd, profane or inappropriate behavior shall result in loss of video visitation privileges for the visitor and/or inmate.
Maximum of two (2) adults and two (2) children may participate in a video visitation session at one time for onsite video visitation.
Visitation sign-up is limited and on a first-come first serve basis.
Visitors are encouraged to go online and reserve a visitation time. Purchased visitation minutes are not transferable.
An adult must accompany all visitors who are under 17 years of age. Children must be monitored at all times.
Visitors are not allowed to bring any personal belongings with them into the visitation area other than their picture ID and/or a set of keys unless otherwise allowed by the jail.

What is a video visit?

Video visitation, also known as remote visitation, is quickly becoming the preferred method for visiting an inmate in jail or prison for the following reasons:

•   It requires little to no staff, versus the staff required to move inmates to and from the visit and watch over the visit. It saves the Washington County Detention Center money.
•   It removes any opportunity for contraband (drugs) to enter the facility.
•   It can become a profit center for the facility, given that the revenue generated by visits is shared with the jail.
•   While inmates prefer to see family and friends in person, video visitation allows them to visit with them more often, and on a whim.
•   Video visitation gives the inmates and their visitors the feeling of more privacy.

Video visitation from the perspective of the visitor allows them to visit from their home, their car, at work, and even allows them to take their device to a family or religious gathering. It allows them to give their inmate the feeling of belonging and not being forgotten.

Video visitation can take place on a computer, a tablet or a phone.

Video visitation saves time. Instead of spending hours driving to the jail, checking in, filling out paperwork, potentially being searched, waiting, and then having a 15–30-minute visit, if it isn’t cancelled at the last minute, the visit can be done from anywhere during a short break in the visitor’s day.

If the visitor does not have access to a phone or computer, they can make an appointment ahead of time and use terminals in the lobby of the jail.

You must also be on the inmate's approved list, even for a video visit.

Washington County Bail Bond Information

Because Washington County and Tennessee can change their bail bond procedures, it is always best to call either the Washington County Detention Center at 423-753-1701, or the court in the jurisdiction (i.e. Municipal Court, District Court, etc.) where the offender was charged, and do this right after an arrestee has been booked.

Ask the staff at the Washington County Detention Center or the Washington County Court Clerk these specific questions:

Is the defendant eligible for bail or a bond?
How much will the bail or bond be, and what are the additional fees?
Where do I go to pay it?
Are there any days or times of the day or night when I cannot post bail?
What types of payment are allowed? Cash? Money order? Credit card? What types of credit cards? Property or other collateral? Surety bonds?
Do I have to use a bail or bond agent?

If you feel the bail is too high and you wish to get it reduced, contact a lawyer or the defendant's public defender and get them to look into what they can do to get a bail reduction. The sooner you get working on this the quicker you will get your loved one released.

This entire process will go smoother and faster with a criminal attorney or bail agent handling it for you.
