About the Angelina County Jail in Lufkin

Every adult arrested in Angelina County, whether by Lufkin police, Diboll officers or the Sheriff’s deputies, is booked into the Angelina County Jail at 2311 E. Lufkin Ave., Lufkin, TX 75901. The jail line is 936-634-2724 and book-in answers at 936-639-8724. Opened in 2003 for 279 people, it was rated for 506 beds by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards after its 2026 addition, and that agency counted 421 inmates on September 1, 2026.

Three Lufkin rules trip up families. Personal letters are not delivered to Lufkin: they are scanned in Longview and read on a kiosk; mail sent there that breaks the rules is destroyed, not returned. Commissary money must be on the account before 8:00 AM Tuesday, because orders close at 10:00 AM Tuesday and are handed out Wednesday. And lobby visits are first come, first served, so sign up in person 30 minutes before the session starts.

  • Phone calls: NCIC, --.16 a minute for U.S. calls with no connection fee; families fund calls through an NCIC account (phone setup).

About the Angelina County Jail

Angelina County Jail, 2311 E. Lufkin Ave. in Lufkin

The Angelina County Jail sits inside the county's Law Enforcement Center at 2311 E. Lufkin Ave., Lufkin, TX 75901, on the east side of Lufkin, and Sheriff Tom Selman is responsible for running it. Jail calls go to the main jail line, 936-634-2724; book-in has its own number, 936-639-8724. Warden Zach Taylor (936-639-8769) and Assistant Warden Scott Riddley (936-639-8774) lead the jail division, and the Sheriff's office lists 936-634-3331 for the Sheriff himself.

According to the county, the building opened in 2003 with room for 279 people, and it holds everyone from Class C misdemeanor arrestees to people charged with capital murder. Since an addition opened in early 2026, state jail inspectors credit the Lufkin lockup with 506 beds; their count on September 1, 2026 found 421 people inside.

How do I Mail an Inmate in the Angelina County Jail, and what can I send them?

What the Angelina County Jail Accepts in the Mail

  • Paper no bigger than 8.5 by 11 inches, with no more than 5 pages per letter. Longer letters are returned and not scanned.
  • Leave the back of every sheet blank, or the letter is sent back.
  • A single photograph per envelope; slip in a second and the whole envelope comes back undelivered.
  • Every envelope needs the inmate's name, SO number and your return address.
  • Magazines, newspapers, bulk mail and books are refused at the Longview address, and the jail stopped accepting mailed packages in March 2022. The one exception is a Bible mailed straight from a church (not from Amazon). Call 936-634-2724 before ordering any publication.
