The county shares boundaries with Ector County to the north, Upton County to the east, Pecos County to the south, and Ward County to the west. It was named after William Cary Crane, a former president of Baylor University.
Crane County recently built a new correctional facility, which was completed in 2023. The new single-story facility, made of beige stone, concrete and with a metal rroof, replaced the existing jail, which was built in 1958 and had a capacity of 24 beds. The new 43,652 square foot facility significantly increased the number of available beds, allowing for improved inmate housing and management. The new jail shares a building with the Sheriff and the Law Enforcement Center.
The new jail in Crane County is near the Crane County Airport, off the N.W. truck route. In addition to its increased capacity, the new facility also serves as a training hub for area law enforcement. This provides opportunities for local law enforcement agencies to enhance their skills and knowledge within the facility's premises.

There are two options for putting money on an inmate's books:
Choice 1 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Crane County Jail uses CommissaryDeposit.com to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Choice 2 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
**Call 432-558-3571 first to ask Crane County Jail if this option is still available.
