About the Fort Bend County Detention Facility

The Fort Bend County Jail recently underwent an expansion and renovation project. The expansion added 213,000 square feet of jail space, while the renovation encompassed 40,000 square feet of the original jail facilities. A new connector was also constructed to link the expansion with the old facility. The nine-story tower in the expansion includes an additional 1,008 beds to alleviate overcrowding in the existing jail. It also houses a monitoring and control center for the jail compound.

  • The facility has an outside work crew consisting of inmates and community service workers who maintain the grounds and landscaping of various county locations, totaling approximately 62 acres.

  • Inmates at the Fort Bend County Jail can receive funds to be placed in their inmate trust fund account. These funds can be used for commissary purchases, telephone calls, or eMessaging. Cash, debit cards, and credit cards can be used at the JPay kiosk in the main lobby, or online. Money orders can also be accepted and should be made out to "Inmate Trust Fund" with the inmate's name and jail identification number included. Funds can be dropped off at the bonding window in the main lobby or mailed to the provided address.

  • Visitation options include both From-Home Remote Visitation and On-Site Visitation. Interested visitors can sign up and schedule visits online. From-Home visits require specific computer and internet connection requirements, while On-Site visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. The visitation hours and availability can be found on the website.

  • Inmates receive two free telephone calls upon being booked into the Fort Bend County Detention Facility. Additional calls are billable and can be paid for by either the inmate or the called party. Inmates can also purchase blocks of time for their Inmate Telephone Debit Account. Collect calls must be paid for by the called party, and Securus Advance Connect accounts are recommended for cost-effective payment.

The Fort Bend County Detention Facility is the main booking and release, as well as housing, for all inmates arrested and charged in Fort Bend County, Texas.

Using direct supervision allows for the detention officers to remain in the housing units directly interacting with inmates throughout the day, a method which has been shown to create a safer and more relaxed environment than other forms of supervision.

While in detention, inmates will be under the care and control of the staff, including being escorted to classes, programs, or treatments they are involved in, being provided with full, healthy meals three times each day, having clean clothing and bedding provided, access to education and exercise, and recreation time.

For moving inmates to outside appointments, court appearances, medical care, and others, the transportation section of the staff will transport them there and back, ensuring that they are both receiving the care they need and having access to the court system.

An inmate processing unit is the first that they will have contact with upon arrival and they will there be interviewed, classified for housing purposes, have property documented and stores, have their image taken, and other intake needs. Once they have been completely processed they are taken to their assigned housing unit and shown to their bed.

After they have completed processing they will appear on the inmate look up and in case of an emergency the Fort Bend County Detention Facility can be contacted at 281-341-4735.

Some inmates will be assigned to or accepted onto a work crew, allowing them to gain skills and experience by completing maintenance, cleaning, landscaping, and other tasks for the Sherriff’s Office as well as for Fort Bend County.

Medical care is provided by trained and certified medical professionals both onsite and off, and mental health support is provided in group sessions, private counseling, and other treatments. To further support mental health and reduce recidivism, inmates are encouraged to have contact with their family and friends and are able to do so with the use of phones in the housing unit, through use of tablets that also have access to other media and through visits that are available on the tablets as remote or onsite video visits or in person after scheduling 24 hours in advance.

Onsite visiting hours are Sunday through Friday, and no visits are provided on Saturdays.
