The Hidalgo County Boot Camp is operated under the Judge Mario E. Ramirez Jr Juvenile Justice Center to house up to 40 of their nonviolent males who are considered to be at risk and are between 13 and 17 years old. It operates on a 9 month program and provides a military structured program that is offered during adjudication to those who are being assigned to detention. While in the program there is a focus on self-discipline, addressing any present mental health issue, and education. All students are expected to attend classes and complete their work for their academics, and there are physical activities each day. Discipline and respect develop by following the structured program within, and programs are provided for substance abuse recovery.
