Marion County, Texas Jail Search: Who Is Booked on Dallas Street

Adults held by the Marion Sheriff stay in one building, the Marion County Jail, 102 W. Dallas Street, Jefferson, TX 75657. No second adult jail runs here. Read on for how to find a name, why it might be missing, mugshots, alerts, money, calls, mail and the Jefferson police list.

Pull up the Sheriff's Current Inmate Roster and enter a last name. The Marion site says each entry carries booking details, charges and any bond amount, and that it refreshes from jail records. Someone booked in Jefferson within the hour, or let out at dawn, may not match yet, so phone to be sure.

The Dallas Street jail answers 903-665-3271 day and night, by the Sheriff's listing. Read off the Marion inmate's full name and birth date. Ask for the SO# (booking number), the charges, the bond and the next Jefferson hearing. Bond steps sit on our Marion bail page.

1. How do I search the Marion County jail roster?

The Sheriff's Office links its roster from the county website. Try these steps:

  1. Open the Marion roster on a phone or computer and let it finish loading.
  2. Type the last name only at first. Add a first name if too many rows come up.
  3. Open the matching row to see the Jefferson booking details, the charge list and any bond set.
  4. Copy down the SO#. Dallas Street staff and the Longview mail box both use it.
  5. Mind the Sheriff's warning on the site: it makes no promise that every line is exact.

Still unsure? Dial 903-665-3271 and ask the Jefferson jail desk to confirm.

2. No match on the Jefferson roster: what next?

A blank search does not mean the person is free. Some likely reasons:

  • Booking still under way. Prints and paperwork come before a Marion name goes online.
  • Spelling. Search again under a Marion relative's second given name, a former surname, or with the hyphen dropped.
  • Bonded out. A Jefferson magistrate may have set a bond that someone already paid.
  • Moved. A neighboring sheriff, federal deputies, immigration officers or TDCJ may have taken the Marion inmate.
  • Under 17. Texas children 10 to 16 go through juvenile intake, not Dallas Street.

Call the Jefferson jail at 903-665-3271 for any of these. For an arrest in town, Jefferson police answer at 903-665-2432.

3. Which jail could be holding someone picked up in Marion County?

The Dallas Street building is the only county jail. Texas jail inspectors counted 43 Marion beds there in June 2022. Jefferson police work from 106 North Alley St., Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-2432; call them to learn where a town arrest was taken.

A Marion resident stopped close to the line with Cass, Morris, Upshur or Harrison, or wanted by one of them, may sit in that county's lockup instead:

Each neighbor runs its own roster. Phone that jail to check a name.

4. Can I see Marion County mugshots or a booking photo?

The Marion roster's own description covers booking details, charges and bonds, but says nothing about photos. So, to get mugshots, a written request is the sure path.

  • Ask the Sheriff. Ask the Marion Sheriff for the Jefferson booking photo through a written Public Information Act request, 114 W. Austin Street, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-7201. Name the person and the arrest date.
  • Know the timeline. Texas offices must answer promptly. One that needs over ten business days has to tell you when. Basic arrest facts can't be held back (Government Code 552.108(c)).
  • If nothing comes. Should the Jefferson office neither reply nor ask for an Attorney General ruling inside ten business days, file a complaint with that office's Open Records Division.
  • Private mugshot websites. Under Business and Commerce Code ch. 109, Texas reins in photo sites that ask $150 or more for a takedown. Such a site owes Marion people a free correction or removal of a wrong or partial booking shot, and sealed or expunged records may not appear.
  • ICE photos come only through a FOIA filing, made on the ICE request portal. Washington keeps its own booking pictures private, apart from rare Marshals releases for wanted fugitives.

5. Release and transfer alerts for a Marion inmate: how do they work?

Sign up for IVSS-Counties, the free Texas service that tracks jail custody. The Marion Sheriff's page points families to it. Phone sign-up runs all day and night at 866-268-8959.

  • Search a full or partial name on the site, then ask for notices in English or Spanish.
  • Notices go out when Dallas Street books or frees the Marion inmate, when a hearing gets scheduled or changed, and on a move to TDCJ.
  • The Marion inmate gets no word of your sign-up. An account is optional.

Treat the alerts as a helpful tool, not as a safety plan. Once someone is in state prison, TDCJ Victim Services takes over at 800-848-4284.

6. Jefferson bonds: how does release from Dallas Street work?

Within 48 hours, a Texas magistrate sees each Marion arrestee. At that Jefferson hearing, the magistrate names the offense, offers an appointed lawyer and fixes a bond. Texas uses three kinds:

  • Cash. The full amount, paid back when the case ends, minus any allowed fees.
  • Surety. A licensed bondsman stands behind the Marion bond. Marion families don't get that fee back.
  • Personal bond. The Marion defendant signs and promises to show up. Some violent charges rule it out.

Some holds outlast a paid bond, like a family violence wait or a detainer. Read our Jefferson bail page for every step, and call the jail at 903-665-3271 to learn the bond in place now.

7. Marion charges: where are the exact counts listed?

Start with the roster row, which lists the booked charges. Then reach the Jefferson clerk holding the Marion file:

  • Felony files: District Clerk, 102 W. Austin Street, Room 303, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-2441.
  • Class A and B misdemeanors: County Clerk, 102 W. Austin Street, Room 206, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-3971.

Both Austin Street clerks open weekdays 8 a.m. to noon, then again 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Prosecutors sometimes change a booked charge. The District Attorney and County Attorney share Room 201 in the same building, 903-665-2611.

↑ Back to the question list

8. Will Marion pay for a defense lawyer?

Ask for one out loud at the magistrate hearing. Under the county's plan with the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, request forms go to the justice of the peace on rotation. Marion has no public defender office, so contract lawyers take these cases in turn.

  • JP Precinct 1: 114 W. Austin Street, Room 204, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-2392.
  • JP Precinct 2: 8249 SH 49, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-3581.

A Marion household on SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, SSI or housing help counts as unable to pay. So does a Marion family whose income sits no higher than 1.25 times the poverty guideline. Being bonded out does not change that.

9. What are the Marion County jail visiting rules?

Call the Jefferson jail at 903-665-3271 for days, times and the visitor list before you drive over. State rules set a floor that Dallas Street must meet:

  • Each Marion inmate gets two in-person, noncontact visits a week, at a 20-minute minimum apiece.
  • The Jefferson schedule has to include at least one evening or weekend slot.
  • A plan for visits from the inmate's young children, who may need an adult with them.
  • Free visits with a veterans service officer for those who served.

Before your Marion trip, ask which ID the desk wants and whether kids must be listed ahead. Our visits page explains how Texas jail visits tend to run.

↑ Back to the question list

10. How can I add money to a Jefferson inmate account?

The Marion Sheriff's page says the jail accepts deposits online only. It names two services:

Have the full name and SO# ready, and check any fee before you pay. Our deposits page covers sending funds, and the Marion commissary page lists what jail store buys involve.

↑ Back to the question list

11. How do Marion inmates make calls or send messages?

The Sheriff's page names NCIC as the jail's phone and message company, at ncic.com. Set up an account there to take calls from Dallas Street.

  • Electronic messages and photos can go in through NCIC. The Marion mail rules set no cap on how many.
  • Help with messaging: 844-724-2076.
  • Ask NCIC about call rates and how to load a prepaid account.

For the how-to, Jefferson families can open our calls page or the e-messages page.

12. Where does mail for a Marion inmate go?

Personal letters skip Jefferson and go to a scanning box in Longview. Put these four lines on the envelope:

Your relative's full name
SO# (the booking or jacket number)
Facility: Marion jail, Jefferson
P O Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606

Add your return address. Each Marion letter must fit 8.5 x 11 paper, run five pages or fewer, use only the front of each sheet, and hold a single photo. Bulk mail, books, magazines and newspapers are refused there. Scanned paper is destroyed, and the inmate reads it on a kiosk or tablet.

Send legal papers and medical records straight to the Marion jail, 102 W. Dallas Street, Jefferson, TX 75657. State rules say Jefferson staff may unseal attorney mail just with the Marion inmate present. Our mail page has Texas jail letter tips.

13. How does a family get back things taken at a Jefferson booking?

Jails store what a person carried in at booking. Before you go, call 903-665-3271 and ask for Booking. Questions worth asking:

  • Can a relative collect the bag, or does it go out with the person?
  • Must the Marion inmate sign a pickup slip naming you?
  • What ID should you bring, and what hours work?
  • How is any money left on the account returned?

Things officers seized as evidence are separate. Ask the agency that made the arrest: the Sheriff at 903-665-7201 or Jefferson police at 903-665-2432.

14. Sick or injured on Dallas Street: what can family do?

Phone the jail at 903-665-3271 and ask to have your worry passed to the medical staff. Share medicine names, doses and the doctor's number. Staff may need the inmate's OK before sharing health details.

  • Doctor's notes and medical records go by mail to 102 W. Dallas Street, Jefferson, TX 75657, not to Longview.
  • Texas rule 37 TAC 251.6 has the Jefferson jail hand each inmate its complaint steps in writing.
  • A 2025 Texas law keeps anyone jailed in emergency mental health custody separated from Marion inmates who face charges.

Still no fix? The state jail agency, TCJS, accepts Marion complaints on its complaint form or by phone at 512-463-5505. Name the Jefferson jail and the inmate when you write.

15. Marion County warrant check: is one out for my relative?

Marion warrants are served by Sheriff's deputies, 903-665-7201, the two constables (Precinct 1, 114 W. Austin Street, Room 208, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-7892; Precinct 2, 8249 SH 49E, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-578-5200) and Jefferson police, 903-665-2432. Jefferson relatives may scan DPS's Texas 10 Most Wanted page for Marion names. For a Marion name, call the Sheriff or the clerk. Clearing one means a lawyer-led surrender at the issuing Marion court, or a call there to set a date. Felony warrants run through the District Clerk, 102 W. Austin Street, Room 303, Jefferson, TX 75657, 903-665-2441.

↑ Back to the question list

16. Jefferson court dates: who gives them out?

Call the clerk who holds the file. Marion felony dates come from the District Clerk, 903-665-2441. For Class A and B cases it is the County Clerk at 903-665-3971. Both sit in the courthouse at 102 W. Austin Street, Jefferson, TX 75657. Give the full name and the case or SO# number.

Fine-only Marion tickets land in a JP court or in Jefferson Municipal Court, 903-665-7159. Statewide, re:SearchTX shows filed charges and case numbers after a free sign-up, but each Jefferson clerk gives hearing times. For the Marion case from first hearing to verdict, see our Jefferson court page.

17. Federal agents took a Marion person: where now?

A Marion federal case belongs to the Marshall Division of the Eastern District, at 100 East Houston Street, Room 125, Marshall, TX 75670. The clerk's line is 903-935-2912.

18. Held by ICE after a Marion arrest: where to look?

Immigration holds out of Jefferson follow a set path:

  1. An ICE detainer on Form I-247A arrives at Dallas Street.
  2. Under 8 CFR 287.7(d), Marion jailers may keep the person up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released, so ICE can come.
  3. ICE agents collect the Marion inmate from Dallas Street and drive to an immigration center.
  4. Look the Marion relative up on the ICE Online Detainee Locator, by A-number, or by the relative's name and native country.
  5. Still lost? The ICE Dallas field office is at 8101 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247, 972-367-2200.

State law adds rules for Marion too. Under CCP 2A.060, a Texas jail follows each detainer. Government Code 752.053 forbids local curbs on immigration enforcement. Under a 2025 statute, Texas sheriffs who run jails, Marion's included, must request 287(g) terms from ICE. Marion faces a December 1, 2026 cutoff. The Jefferson Sheriff's Office, 903-665-7201, knows where its request stands.

19. Moved from Jefferson to a TDCJ prison: how to find them?

A Marion felony sentence to prison sends the person on to TDCJ, the state prison agency. Marion arrivals start at TDCJ intake, then get a unit matched to the inmate's risk and needs. Marion state jail felons serve at a TDCJ state jail.

Look for Marion transfers with TDCJ's online inmate search. Type the precise surname plus one initial, or else the SID or TDCJ number. Only those held in TDCJ now appear. TDCJ refreshes it on workdays, so a Marion transfer may lag a day or more. Also see JE's Texas state prisons list, which covers each lockup TDCJ runs.

20. Arrested Marion child under 17: what should parents do?

Texas sends a Marion child aged 10 through 16 at the offense to juvenile court, not to the Jefferson jail. At 17, a Marion teen counts as an adult.

  • Juvenile probation for Marion is shared with Camp, Morris and Titus, at 100 W. 1st Street, Suite 400, Mount Pleasant, TX 75455, 903-577-6737.
