About the Marion County Jail

The Marion County Jail is a small downtown building, 3 stories high, and built with tan brick.

Marion County is currently considering improvements to address the conditions at the Marion County Jail. The facility, which was originally built in 1975 and renovated in 1996, has been under review by the Texas Commission for Jail Standards. The review primarily focuses on the age of the facility and how regulations have evolved over time.

Some of the specific concerns highlighted by the Commission include the absence of a Separation Cell, the lack of two emergency fire exits, and the absence of a standpipe and hose system for fire suppression. These issues date back to the original construction of the jail in 1981 when the requirements were different. To comply with regulations, the county conducts regular fire suppression drills and evacuation tests, as well as fire alarm testing.

Another issue identified is the overcrowding within four, 6-bed multiple occupancy cells, which results in insufficient floor space, tables, and seating. This concern was initially raised in 2017. The county is permitted to utilize rooms with extra beds for temporary holds of up to 72 hours or when there are no available beds due to classification or housing limitations.

In terms of inmate deposits for commissary items, Marion County only accepts online deposits. Deposits can be made online. Commissary can also be purchased online for an inmate and shipped to them.

Visits are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1:00PM to 5:00PM by appointment only.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Marion County Jail?

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:

Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail

Bring money to the jail in person.

Jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment.

Marion County Jail has a Tiger Kiosk in the Lobby that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

If you can't get your questions answered online call the Marion County Jail at 903-665-3961.

Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online

Marion County Jail and others often use a private company to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Go to the online site for depositing funds. You will need to register an account, which is free to do and use a debit/credit card for the deposits.

Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail

Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.

Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

Call Marion County Jail at 903-665-3961 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.

Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.

Call 903-665-3961 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.
