Presidio County Inmate Search: Who Is Held in Marfa and How to Reach Them

Adults jailed in this far West Texas county are held at the Presidio County Jail, 320 N. Highland Ave., Marfa, TX 79843, the Sheriff's one adult lockup. A June 2022 state report counted 112 beds, with most people inside that day held for federal or contract agencies. Ring the Sheriff's Office at 432-729-4308, staffed every hour of every day. Have the person's name and birthday ready when you ask about custody, charges and bail. Bondsmen and release terms fill our bail page. Hearings, start to finish, get their own court walkthrough.

1. Reading the Presidio County arrest log

The log is one long list per year, easy to scan on a phone. Try this:

  1. Pull up the current year's arrest log.
  2. Scroll to the month the arrest happened.
  3. Use the search-within-page feature of your browser to hunt for the surname.
  4. Note the arrest date and every charge on that line. A warrant line names the county that wants the person.
  5. Jot it all down before calling, so the deputy can pull the right file quickly.

Remember that the log records arrests. Whether the person is still behind bars today is a question for 432-729-4308.

2. No name on the log yet?

Reasons a person might be absent from the log:

  • Booked minutes ago. Fresh arrests can take time to reach the page.
  • Already out. A bond, a magistrate's release or a transfer may have come first.
  • Held for an outside agency. Federal and contract prisoners may be logged another way, or kept in a different jail.
  • Spelled differently. Try each surname if the person uses two, plus nicknames or a maiden name.
  • Under 17. Texas keeps juvenile cases away from the adult jail.

Deputies answer 432-729-4308 around the clock. A busy signal? Try the backup line, 432-729-4911.

Federal defendants may be shifted to whichever jail has a U.S. Marshals contract and an open bed.

4. Getting Presidio County mugshots

Names on the Sheriff's arrest log link to image files; deputies can explain what each one shows. Want the jail's own picture? Write a Public Information Act letter for it. Address: Sheriff's Office, 320 N. Highland Avenue, Marfa, TX 79843, 432-729-4308. Texas treats basic arrest details as public (Gov't Code 552.108).

  • Sites charging $150 or more to remove mugshots must fix wrong or incomplete ones free of charge, and they may not publish records a court has expunged or sealed. Texas sets these limits in chapter 109 of the Business & Commerce Code.
  • Pictures snapped by immigration agents require a request on ICE's FOIA request page.
  • Federal booking pictures stay private, except that the U.S. Marshals may publish a wanted person's photo.

6. Bail and release after a Presidio County arrest

Jailed adults hear their rights from a magistrate inside two days. That judge also offers appointed counsel and sets bail. Options include cash for the full amount, a bondsman's guarantee, or a personal bond signed on a promise. Certain violent counts block the personal bond. Since Proposition 3 of 2025, a hearing can end with no bail at all on certain violent felonies.

  • Get the bail figure for each count by calling 432-729-4308.
  • On a family violence case, release may wait an extra 4 hours after bond.
  • Immigration detainers and out-of-county warrants survive a paid bond.

Our bail page goes deeper on bondsmen, paying, and getting money back.
