Tyler County Jail Inmate Search
Tyler County Inmate Search: Finding Someone Booked in Woodville
Every adult arrested across Tyler County lands in one building: the county jail at 702 N. Magnolia, Woodville, TX 75979, Corrections line 409-283-6331. It sleeps 43, and the Sheriff's Corrections Division runs it. Read on for searching, mugshots, visits, deposits, letters, warrants and the steps that follow an arrest.
Search first on Texas IVSS-Counties, the state tracker that stepped in for VINE in 2025. A full or partial name shows whether the person is in custody or under supervision. The official jail search is your second try. Anything brand new, like a booking this morning, a bond-out or a transfer, deserves a confirming phone call to Corrections.
Dial Corrections now with three questions: Are they inside? Which counts? Has bond been set? For bonds and bondsmen, open our bail page; for dockets and clerks, our court page.
1. Tyler County jail lookup: which buttons do I press?
- Pull up IVSS-Counties on a phone or laptop.
- Type a last name, then a first. Unsure of spelling? A partial name still searches.
- Open each match and read its custody status line.
- Tap the notice option to hear about a release or transfer. No account is needed.
- Still stuck? Try the official jail search listed above, then ring Corrections at 409-283-6331 and ask for Booking. Say the birth date out loud too.
The county's Sheriff's jail page still points to an old VINE link. IVSS-Counties replaced that system, so use the new one.
↑ Back to the question list2. Blank results on IVSS-Counties: where else to look?
Don't panic yet. Common reasons, with what to do about each:
- Booking takes a while. Records show up only after intake on North Magnolia wraps up. Ring Corrections at 409-283-6331.
- Spelling. Swap in a nickname or middle name, try the surname from before a marriage, or search one side of a hyphenated name.
- Already out. Someone could have bonded out, or a magistrate could have let them go.
- A city arrest. Woodville officers work out of 113 N. Charlton St., Woodville, TX 75979. Their front desk at 409-283-5262 can say where the person went.
- Moved on. Sentenced people leave for state or federal custody. See the prison and federal answers below.
For an arrest report, the Sheriff's Office at 702 N. Magnolia, Woodville, TX 75979, answers at 409-283-2172. Ask for Records.
↑ Back to the question list3. Could they be somewhere besides North Magnolia?
Tyler County Jail, 702 N. Magnolia, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-6331. This is the county's sole adult jail. It has 43 beds plus a few cells for short stays, and a registered nurse works on site. Three groups sleep here:
- People charged but not out on bond, waiting for trial.
- People already sentenced who are waiting for a ride to a state or federal facility.
- People doing misdemeanor jail time.
Tyler County Justice Center. Families come here for visits and to drop off money orders. Corrections at the number above gives directions.
A possible overflow jail. A January 27, 2026 Angelina County commissioners agenda listed a deal to house Tyler inmates. If beds run short, someone may be held at the Angelina County Jail, 2311 E. Lufkin Ave., Lufkin, TX 75901, 936-634-2724. Corrections can say whether that applies.
↑ Back to the question list4. Tyler County mugshots: can families get a copy?
The search tools above are built for custody status. Want the booking picture itself? Ask on paper and mention the Public Information Act by name. Mail or carry it to the Sheriff's Office on North Magnolia: 702 N. Magnolia, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2172. Texas makes agencies hand over basic facts about an arrest promptly (Gov't Code § 552.108(c)). The statute doesn't mention booking photos by name, so the reply will say whether the picture comes too.
- Timing. An office that can't answer in ten business days has to name the day it will. To hold anything back, it generally needs a ruling from the Attorney General.
- Mugshots on private sites. Business and Commerce Code chapter 109 covers sites that charge $150 or more to take a record down. A wrong or incomplete record must be fixed for free after a dispute, and expunged or sealed records can't be published there.
- ICE photos. The single route is ICE's records request form under FOIA.
- Federal photos. Federal agencies keep them private. Only in rare cases, such as a manhunt, might the Marshals Service hand one out.
5. Will IVSS-Counties warn me about a release?
Yes. Texas IVSS-Counties sends free custody notices about people held in county jails. Register on the site or by phone at 866-268-8959, a 24-hour line with English or Spanish, and no account is required.
After a transfer to state prison, alerts come from TDCJ's Victim Services Division at 800-848-4284. For quick news on a bond release, nothing beats a call to Corrections.
↑ Back to the question list6. Getting out before trial: how does bond work in Tyler County?
Inside 48 hours, a magistrate meets each person booked on North Magnolia. That judge reads the counts, explains rights, offers an appointed lawyer, then names the bail. Families then choose among three bonds: full cash, a licensed bondsman's surety, or a personal bond resting on a written promise. Several violent charges bar that last option.
A paid bond doesn't always open the door. Holds can come from elsewhere: a second county's warrant, a parole violation, or immigration. After a family violence arrest, if more abuse looks likely, the law adds four hours of waiting once bond is posted. Our bail page walks through amounts, payment desks and refunds, and the wider Texas picture sits on our Texas bail laws page.
↑ Back to the question list7. Booked counts and filed cases: who can read them to me?
Corrections at 409-283-6331 can read off the booked charges and bond on each. Once a case is filed, the clerk for that charge level keeps the papers:
- Felonies: District Clerk, 100 West Bluff Street, Room 203, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2162. No Friday hours.
- Jailable misdemeanors (Class A or B): County Clerk, 100 West Bluff Street, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2281.
- Class C tickets: a JP court at 203 West Dogwood Street, Woodville, TX 75979, or the city's municipal court.

↑ Back to the question list8. Free defense lawyer: when and how do you ask?
Say yes at the magistrate hearing, and the request is underway. Missed it? Request forms come from the County Clerk for misdemeanors or the District Clerk for felonies, and go back to the same desk. The state indigent defense agency's website has a usable form too.
- Plan on a name by day three, counting working days from when the clerk logs the request.
- Lawyers take turns from approved lists, under the county's appointment plan.
- Being in jail counts toward showing need. So does getting public benefits.
9. Tyler County Justice Center visits: what days and rules apply?
Sundays and Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Every inmate gets one visit a day. Rules worth knowing before you drive:
- Sign in at the Justice Center by 3:30 p.m.
- Carry a driver's license or other valid photo ID.
- Wear a top that covers well. Shorts or skirts can't sit higher than mid-thigh.
- Leave your cell phone in the car; phones aren't allowed in the visiting room.
For directions or a rules check, phone Corrections at 409-283-6331. More tips sit on our jail visits page.
↑ Back to the question list10. Inmate trust fund deposits: what is the method?
Buy a money order made out to "Tyler County Inmate Trust Fund." Print the inmate's name where the signature goes. Then hand it in at the Justice Center. The account pays for commissary snacks, clothes, soap and toothpaste, paper and pens.
Before sending cash any other way, check with Corrections at 409-283-6331. Our deposits page has more.
↑ Back to the question list11. Phone calls from the jail: who pays, and is there messaging?
Calls go out only; nobody can ring an inmate. Three ways to pay:
- Collect calls, billed to you.
- Prepaid calling cards.
- An account tied to an approved phone number.
To open that account, call the jail's phone vendor at 888-459-4521. Ask Corrections at 409-283-6331 about tablets or messages before paying for any app. Our jail calls and inmate messaging pages explain more.
↑ Back to the question list12. Letters to North Magnolia: what gets through?
Put the inmate's whole legal name on line one, then the jail address: 702 N. Magnolia, Woodville, TX 75979. Corrections at 409-283-6331 can confirm the exact top line.
- Letters, photos and drawings are fine if nothing in them is sexual.
- Books reach the jail only as gifts to its library, never addressed to one person.
- Clothes, food, liquids and contraband are turned away, by mail or in person.
- Statewide jail standards set no cap on incoming letters. Attorney mail is opened only in the inmate's sight, to check for contraband.
Our jail mail page has more.
↑ Back to the question list13. Wallet, phone and keys from booking: who collects them?
Wallets, keys and phones taken at intake stay with the jail. Before you drive over, phone Corrections at 409-283-6331 and ask:
- Can someone other than the inmate collect the bag, and does the inmate need to sign for it?
- What ID should you bring, and on which days?
- Does money left in the trust account leave with them at release?
- What happens to items held as evidence?
14. Illness, injury or medication worries: who do I tell?
A registered nurse works inside the jail. Call Corrections at 409-283-6331 soon about daily medicines, a pregnancy, allergies or emotional strain.
The jail has its own grievance steps, which inmates learn on arrival. Still unresolved? Jail Standards, the Texas commission that sets rules for county lockups, hears outside complaints. Use its online form, phone 512-463-5505, or mail Post Office Box 12985, Austin, Texas 78711-2985.
↑ Back to the question list15. Tyler County warrant worries: how do I check one?
Deputies serve county warrants; the Sheriff's Office takes calls at 409-283-2172. Inside Woodville, city police answer at 409-283-5262. For the state's priority fugitives, see the Texas 10 Most Wanted from DPS.
To check quietly, a lawyer can phone, or you can ask the clerk for the court involved. Felony matters sit with the District Clerk, 100 West Bluff Street, Room 203, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2162. Misdemeanors go to the County Clerk, 100 West Bluff Street, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2281. A warrant won't fade by itself. Sit down with a lawyer, then surrender at the signing court or call it about a fresh date.
↑ Back to the question list16. Court settings on Bluff Street: where are they printed?
Felony settings appear on the District Clerk's docket archive. For misdemeanors, call the County Clerk at 409-283-2281. Tickets go to the JP court that issued them or to Woodville Municipal Court, 400 W. Bluff Street, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-3255.
The District Clerk and all four JP courts shut on Fridays, so plan calls for Monday through Thursday. Our court page maps every Tyler courtroom and clerk.
↑ Back to the question list17. Charged in federal court: where does the case go from Woodville?
For a federal arrest here, the case lands in Lufkin, in the Eastern District's courthouse named for Ward R. Burke: 104 North Third Street, Lufkin, TX 75901. Clerk: 936-632-2739.
- A detention hearing comes first, deciding if the person goes home before trial (18 U.S.C. 3142).
- Pretrial housing is the Marshals Service's call, at times a county jail. Lufkin line: 936-219-6412. District office: 211 West Ferguson Street, 4th Floor, Tyler, TX 75702, 903-590-1370.
- Sentence handed down? The Bureau of Prisons runs a locator searchable by name or BOP register number. It may skip anyone still awaiting a federal trial.
18. Immigration detainer at the jail: what are the steps?
- North Magnolia receives ICE's detainer, Form I-247A.
- Under 8 CFR 287.7(d), the jail may hold the person up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released, so agents can collect them.
- In Texas, CCP § 2A.060 has jails honor detainers. Gov't Code chapter 752 forbids counties and cities to curb immigration enforcement.
- ICE's Houston Field Office covers Southeast Texas: 126 Northpoint Drive, Houston, TX 77060, 281-774-4816. People may go to sites such as the Montgomery Processing Center, 806 Hilbig Road, Conroe, TX 77301, 936-521-4900.
- Try the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Have the A-number handy; if not, the name plus birth date and birth nation will do.
One more date: December 1, 2026. A 2025 Texas law gives jail-running counties until then to request 287(g) partnerships. The Sheriff's Office at 409-283-2172 knows where Tyler stands.
↑ Back to the question list19. Moved to TDCJ after sentencing: how is the person found?
After sentencing, people wait on North Magnolia until TDCJ sends transport. Next come intake and screening, then a unit that fits their case. Those with state jail felony terms serve in a state jail.
- On the TDCJ inmate search, spell the surname exactly and add the first initial; ID numbers work too. Only current prisoners appear. Updates come on working days, always at least a day old. Texas Department of Criminal Justice data covers state jails too.
- Our Texas state prisons list has unit addresses and rules.
20. Under 17 and arrested: where are youths taken?
Ages 10 to 16 count as juvenile in Texas, so the North Magnolia jail isn't where a youth that age is kept. Officers have to notify a parent quickly (Fam. Code § 52.02). Anyone 17 or older faces adult booking.
The Tyler County Juvenile Probation Department, 100 W. Bluff Street, Room 106, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2503, knows which youth detention center was used and the first court time. A youth lawyer is named under the juvenile board plan.
↑ Back to the question list21. Tyler County officers, deputies and city police: who arrested them?
- Woodville Police Department: 113 N. Charlton St., Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-5262. Office hours run 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, closed noon to 12:30.
- Tyler County Sheriff's Office: 702 N. Magnolia, Woodville, TX 75979, 409-283-2172. Deputies patrol the rural county. This number also covers city police questions after hours and on weekends.
Colmesneil, Ivanhoe or a country road? Call the Sheriff's Office first. Dispatch can say which agency acted and where the person was taken. For an emergency, dial 911.
