Under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff’s Office in Wichita Falls, the Judge Arthur R Tipps Juvenile Justice Center is a pre-adjudication detention facility for youth who are between the ages of 10 and 16 years old. It is rated for up to 32 beds, however the average number of juveniles present each day is 16, while the average length of stay is 10 days. Along with the detention portion, the probation department is responsible for electronic monitoring and contract a sex offender treatment program. They also run character development programs, classes on consequences, court room services, day reporting, intensive supervision, interpersonal skills programs, rational behavior training, resilience, and more. Healthy meals and snacks are provided, and youth will receive ongoing school classes and physical education during the weekdays. Medical care and mental health care are also provided through contracts with local professionals, ensuring that all needs are addressed.
