About the Bedford Adult Detention Center
Located at 1000 Broad Street in Bedford, VA, the Bedford Detention Center is the mail holding facility for the county and houses all adult inmates from booking to their release at the end of their sentence or they are bailed out. The mailing address is PO Box 247, MD, and inmates are permitted to both receive mail at the facility as well as to send letters to their loved ones. Only those who have not been recently released from another facility and who are not involved in the same criminal case will be permitted to have contact with those who are currently incarcerated. All mail is opened and will be scanned in and electronically delivered to the inmate, which restricts contraband from entering the facility and allows inmates to receive their mail quicky and efficiently. The jail has contracted GTL to provide phone services, allowing inmates to call friends and family who are on their approved call list, and this account is supported through connectnetwork.com. Visits are held onsite and can be scheduled by contacting the facility and scheduling during the appropriate visiting hours for their housing unit. Units A through E will occur on Tuesday afternoons from 1pm until 3pm, F through I will be on Wednesdays during the same hours, and on Sunday inmate workers will receive visits between 1pm and 2:30pm. During incarceration there are several programs and services that will help to improve access to education with GED courses and other education or training courses, addictions treatments, counselling, and even financial management and parenting classes. With the rehabilitation efforts of the programs available and the support of loved ones, the goal for this facility is to provide inmates with the tools and knowledge they need for a successful reintegration into their community after they have served their sentence.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Bedford Adult Detention Center?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Bedford Adult Detention Center uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Bedford Adult Detention Center first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
1000 Broad Street
Bedford, VA 24523

Option 4 - Make an Inmate Deposit with Jail ATM over the Phone by calling 877-810-0914
To do this you will need the inmate's offender # (inmate ID #) and full legal name.
