Though licensed for 203 inmates, the Lauderdale County Jail often has to house many more offenders, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails have a monthly turnover of at least 40%, with another 30% turning over every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and about 8-9% staying six to twelve months. Inmates who stay longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take time to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Lauderdale County are held in the Lauderdale County facility much longer.
Law enforcement agencies in Lauderdale County arrest and detain approximately 4,060 offenders each year.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office runs the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence. It holds adult men and women arrested by the Sheriff’s Office and by police in Florence and the county’s smaller towns, including Killen, Lexington, Rogersville, St. Florian, and Waterloo. The Sheriff’s Office gives the address as 563 South Seminary Street, Florence, AL 35630. For custody questions, call the jail at (256) 760-5771. The Sheriff’s main line is (256) 760-5757. The jail is licensed for 203 beds. It holds people awaiting trial and people serving sentences of less than a year, and those with longer sentences are transferred to state prison.
The biggest thing families should know is that in-person visits are for attorneys, authorized staff, and approved rehabilitation workers only. Everyone else visits by video on tablets issued to the people held there. Video visits and phone calls go through ViaPath’s ConnectNetwork at web.connectnetwork.com and cost $0.25 a minute. Text and photo messages go through GettingOut. Money you add to a calling account generally lets the person contact only you. Unless they have money on their own books, they can’t call anyone else. The Director must approve special in-person visits, such as for an emergency or a death in the family.
You can search for someone on VINELink at vinelink.vineapps.com or call the jail. The person will see a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours of arrest, as Rule 4.3 requires. Lauderdale County cases are in the 11th Judicial Circuit, and Alacourt shows filings and court dates. If you need to turn yourself in on a warrant, call the Sheriff’s Office or a lawyer before you go.
Some people are released on their own recognizance. For others, the jail accepts cash, credit cards, and money orders, and licensed bondsmen and county real estate can also be used. Call (256) 760-5771 for the amount. In Alabama, bail is a right for most defendants. It can be denied in capital cases where the proof is evident or the presumption great. Under Aniah’s Law (2022), it can also be denied after a detention hearing for murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. Amendment 1, passed in May 2026 with 81.6% support, added solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Rule 7.2 recommends $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for Class B, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, though judges may depart from those ranges. Release can also come through an unsecured appearance bond or a secured bond backed by cash, property, or a surety.
To add money, use the lobby kiosk (cash or debit), go online at Inmate Canteen, or mail a money order with the person’s full name to 563 South Seminary Street, Florence, AL 35630. For letters, use the person’s full name and ID number, c/o Lauderdale County Detention Center, P.O. Box 1710, Florence, AL 35631. Write in blue or black ink. Books must be paperback and sent from a retailer, and newspapers and magazines must come from the publisher. No fixed-route city bus serves the jail, so most visitors drive. Chevron at 420 S Court St and Quik Mart at 901 Florence Blvd have gas. Cook Out at 570 S Court St and Taco Bell at 503 S Court St are a few blocks away.

Steps to pay bail in Lauderdale County
After an arrest, individuals are brought to Lauderdale County Jail in Florence for processing. Following this, three possible outcomes exist:
1. The individual may be released without posting bail, with a promise to appear in court.
2. The individual could be held in jail until their court date.
3. Bail or bond can be posted for release; for more information, contact 256-760-5771.
Bail payment can be handled through various means.
- Pay a cash bond in full at the bonding window inside the jail or at the clerk of court, by cash, cashier's check or money order; a lobby kiosk or online bond vendor often takes debit and credit cards for an extra fee, and you should bring the inmate's full name and booking number (the jail can be reached at 256-760-5771).
- Licensed bail bond agents in Lauderdale County are available for assistance.
- Land or a home can often serve as bond collateral: the owner provides a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value showing clear title and equity of at least the bond amount, commonly double, and the court that set bail approves the pledge.
