The Pike County Jail’s license covers 152 inmates, but the jail often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails experience a monthly turnover of at least 40%, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, with about 8-9% of inmates staying six to twelve months. Those who stay longer than a year usually face serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Pike County remain in the Pike County facility much longer.

The jail is part of the Pike County Judicial Complex, which opened in August 2023 and put the sheriff’s office, the jail and the courtrooms under one roof. It replaced a jail built in 1957 for about 40 people. The complex also has medical rooms, a kitchen, a laundry and outdoor exercise areas.
To find out whether someone is in custody, check the sheriff’s online roster at pikecountyalsheriff.com, or search statewide on VINELink (vinelink.vineapps.com), where you can also sign up for custody alerts. After booking, Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3 requires that a person be brought before a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours of arrest. Pike County cases are heard in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, in courtrooms connected to the jail. You can look up charges and court dates on Alacourt (v2.alacourt.com). If you think there is a warrant for you or a family member, talk with the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before turning yourself in.
Most people in Alabama have a right to bail. A judge can refuse bail in a capital case when the proof is evident or the presumption is great. Under Aniah’s Law (2022), a judge can also hold someone without bail after a pretrial detention hearing if they are charged with murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson or robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; or terrorism. In May 2026, voters added solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder, and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle, to that list by passing Amendment 1 with 81.6% of the vote. For other charges, judges look at the recommended schedule in Rule 7.2 (for example, $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for a Class B felony, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI), and they can set bail higher or lower than it. A person may be released on personal recognizance, on an unsecured appearance bond, or on a secured bond backed by cash, property or a professional bail bond company. Visits are by video through NCIC. On-site video visits at the jail are free and run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. They last 20–30 minutes. Each inmate gets two visits a week, with up to two adults plus one child under six. Visits from home run every day from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and cost about $7.50 for 30 minutes plus a $2.00 fee. Children must come with a parent or guardian, and you should bring the child’s birth certificate. Dress modestly: no shorts, tank tops, sleeveless or low-cut tops, see-through clothing, hats, or heels over one inch.
There’s no public bus to the complex, so most visitors drive. For gas nearby, there’s a Sunoco at 805 N. Three Notch Street and a Citgo at 701 N. Three Notch Street. For a quick meal, US Deli is at 904 N. Three Notch Street, and Cook Out is at 1107 US-231.
