Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
For round-the-clock inmate information, call the 485-bed Talladega County Jail at 256-761-2000.
This facility receives misdemeanor and felony arrestees from throughout the county for booking and processing. Those who are detained remain here until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or ordered to stay in custody until their trial ends.
Browse the roster of current inmates with the inmate search tool.
Sentences shorter than one year are served here. Sentences longer than one year are served in the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page provides information about the visitation schedule, inmate funds, sending mail, inmate phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bonds, and commissary purchases.
Note the inmate’s booking number or jail ID, as you’ll need it for letters and other contact. If it’s not online, call Talladega County Jail at 256-761-2000.

Talladega County Jail Inmate Search
We’ve put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers covering how to find an inmate in the Talladega County Jail, how jail rosters work, and what happens after someone is arrested and booked. If you still have questions after reading them, call 256-761-2000.
The Talladega County Jail is licensed for 485 inmates at a time, but it often has to make room for many more offenders, especially on weekends. At most city and county jails, at least 40% of the inmate population turns over monthly. Another 30% turns over every 90 days and another 20% every six months, and approximately 8-9% stay six to twelve months. Inmates who remain longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Talladega County are held at the Talladega County facility much longer.
Each year, Talladega County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 9,700 offenders.
Talladega County Jail is the detention center for Talladega County and provides housing for all newly arrested detainees throughout the pre-trial period. Also housed here are overflow inmates from the state inmates, as well as some municipal detainees from the county.
The Talladega County Jail at 150 East Renfroe Road in Talladega is run by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, and the jail’s main number is (256) 761-2000. It is a 485-bed facility that holds men and women arrested anywhere in the county on misdemeanor and felony charges, most of them awaiting trial. The jail also houses state inmates waiting for transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections. Medical staff are on site around the clock, with a contract doctor on call, plus dental care and mental health counseling. The sheriff’s administrative office is in the Judicial Building at 148 East Street North; its non-emergency line is (256) 362-2748.
To find out whether someone is in custody, use the sheriff’s Citizen Connect booking search at cc.southernsoftware.com. You can search by name, charge, or arresting agency, and recent bookings show charges and bond amounts. Booking itself (fingerprints, photo, medical questions, property inventory) can take anywhere from an hour to a day or more when the jail is busy. Under Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3, a person arrested must be taken before a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours. Felony cases are handled in the 29th Judicial Circuit, which covers Talladega County alone. Court records are on Alacourt. If you believe you or a family member has a warrant, call the sheriff’s office or talk to an attorney before turning yourself in.
Alabama’s Constitution entitles most defendants to bail. Capital offenses can be held without bail when the proof is evident or the presumption great, and Aniah’s Law (2022) lets a judge deny bail after a pretrial detention hearing for murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. In May 2026 voters added solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder, and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle, approving Amendment 1 with 81.6% of the vote. Judges set amounts using the Rule 7.2 schedule (for example, $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for Class B, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI) but can go higher or lower. Release can come through personal recognizance, an unsecured appearance bond, or a secured bond paid in cash, pledged with property, or written by a licensed bail bond company. Call the jail to confirm the bond amount and how the jail is taking payment that day.
Visits are by appointment, so call before you drive. On-site visits run 9–11 a.m. and 2–4 p.m. every day, with an added 6–8 p.m. session Monday through Friday. Each inmate gets one 30-minute visit a week with no more than two guests. Bring a government-issued photo ID and dress modestly. Remote video visits are available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through GettingOut. Register at gettingout.com or in the app, choose Talladega County, and fund your account. GettingOut support is (866) 516-0115.
No public bus serves the jail, so most visitors drive. Murphy USA at 210 Haynes Street and Mobil at 315 East Street North are close by for gas. For a quick meal, try Zaxby’s at 722 Battle Street East or Arby’s at 203 Battle Street East.
Address mail to the person’s full name and inmate number, c/o Talladega County Jail, 150 East Renfroe Road, Talladega, AL 35160, and write your full name and return address on it. Use blue or black ink. Postcards and letters are accepted, and newspapers, magazines, and paperback books must come directly from the publisher or a retailer such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Books-A-Million. Hardcovers are not allowed. Deposits and commissary care packages (up to $125) go through Inmate Canteen at team3.inmatecanteen.com, (715) 690-2965. GettingOut also handles phone accounts, short electronic messages, and tablets. Inmates cannot receive incoming calls, so set up a prepaid account if you want calls to come to your phone.
After arrest, individuals are processed at Talladega County Jail, where they undergo a series of steps that determine their charges and whether they’ll be released on their own recognizance, allowed to post bail, or held until their court date.
The first rule for anyone arrested is to remain silent. Anything they say can be used in court, so it’s best to speak only to an attorney about the incident.
Here are the typical stages of the booking process at Talladega County Jail:
Booking time varies, with some cases completed in an hour, but more complex cases, or those involving uncooperative behavior, can take up to 48 hours. If you need details about an offender’s bail or bond, contact the facility at 256-761-2000.
If someone is taken to Talladega County Jail in Talladega for booking, the next steps depend on their case:
1. The individual may be released without bail, under a promise to appear at a court hearing.
2. They could be held in custody until their trial.
3. They may post a bail or bond for release. To find out the exact bail amount, call 256-761-2000.
Bail payments can be handled in various ways.
