About the Graham County Adult Detention

The Graham County Adult Detention, located in the city of Safford, in Graham County, Arizona is a medium to maximum-security facility.

At 61,000 square feet and with 248 beds, the Graham County Adult Detention is the newest jail in Arizona, completed in Novemeber 2017.

The jail has 175 cameras and a 120 minute assault door that can lock the facility completely up with the press of single button.

The jail was built with 120 male dormitory beds, 24 male six-person cell beds, 56 male cell beds, 28 female dormitory beds, 12 female six-person cell beds and eight female cell beds for a total bed count of 248.

The Graham County Adult Detention was also built with additional space to accommodate future expansions capable of housing 120 dormitory-style beds as well as more program space.

Inmates in this jail range from low level misdemeanor offenders to those being held and awaiting trial for violent crimes like robbery, rape and murder. Therefore, the security level must be as high as is it would be in any maximum-security state prison. 

Security features in the Graham County Adult Detention include security cameras, electronic detection and reinforced fencing topped with razor wire.

Correctional officers in Graham County Adult Detention are armed with mace and trained to use physical force to protect themselves and other inmates from violence. 

All of the men and women being held in the Graham County Adult Detention are either awaiting trial or have been sentenced in the Graham County Court System already and been sentenced to one year or less. 

The Corrections Division of the Graham County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining and running this facility.

The staff is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for inmates, themselves and visitors to the facility.  

The facility features its own courtroom, where inmates can receive judgment in person from a judge or by video.

There are also two attorney visitation rooms for inmates to meet with their attorneys as well as eight stations for public visitations. These can all be done by a video visitation system if need be for maximum-security inmates.

Inmates in the Graham County Adult Detention are fed three meals a day totaling 2,500 calories, are allowed at least one hour a day for exercise, have access to books, a legal library, and bathroom and shower facilities. 

Family and Friends of inmates are allowed to receive phone calls from the inmates, provide them with commissary money, receive and send them mail and schedule a time to visit. If you have the resources to bail or bond an inmate out of jail, go here for information.

Convicted and Sentenced Inmates

When an inmate is convicted and sentenced to a year or more, they are transferred to the Arizona State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  

Inmates that are convicted of a misdemeanor and/or sentenced to less than one year of a state crime serve their time in the jail. 

Illegal immigrants may be transferred into ICE custody and are then deported, however if they were convicted of a state or federal crime, they will do their time first.
