2. Select “Take New Photo” or “Upload New Photo”.
3. Take a new photo with your webcam, or select "Choose File" to upload a photo from your computer.
4. Give your photo a Title or add it to the "Gallery" of your choice.
5. Select the "Share" button.
6. Select your inmate(s) and then select "Share".
7. Once the photo is approved, it will be shared with your inmate(s).

The Maricopa County Lower Buckeye Jail has a very strict set of rules and policies regarding mail that is delivered to inmates.

The purpose of these rules are not to make life difficult for you or to ‘punish’ incarcerated inmates further, but are here for the safety and security of all the inmates and staff who reside and work in what can be a very dangerous place.

For the time being, Maricopa County Lower Buckeye Jail is still allowing inmates to receive physical mail, however many jails and prisons around the country are starting to go full-on digital; only allowing electronic messages and digital images to be accessible by inmates through kiosks or jail provided handheld devices.

All Maricopa County Jail Inmates are made aware of the following Rules and Policies and for your benefit these are posted here.

Many items that are needed by inmates that you may want to mail but can’t, can be purchased directly from the Maricopa County Jail’s Commissary. Even indigent inmates, those without any funds, are provided basic hygiene items and other items necessary for their physical and mental health.
 


POSTCARDS

Maricopa County Lower Buckeye Jail Inmates are allowed personal mail, but ONLY POSTCARDS.  No envelopes with personal mail are allowed.

The following is a list of ALLOWABLE postcard correspondence.

  • STANDARD Postcards with metered postage or USPS stamps, written in blue or black ink only.
  • Minimum size postcards: 3.5 x 4.25 inches.
  • Maximum size postcards: 4.25 x 6 Inches.

The following is a list of PROHIBITED postcards: 

Read and follow this list carefully. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.

  • Custom Postcards.
  • Postcards contaminated in any way.
  • Postcards written in ink other than black or blue.
  • Defaced or altered postcards.
  • Plastic(s) or wrapping(s) on postcards.
  • Postcards with labels or stickers
  • Postcards with any watermarks, stains, perfume, lipstick, et cetera
  • Postcards depicting nudity, weapons, criminal activity or gang references


BOOKS, MAGAZINES & NEWSPAPERS

Inmates are also allowed to receive books, newspapers and magazines, but each inmate may only have 3 books, 5 magazines and 1 newspaper in their possession at any one time. All books, magazines and newspapers must be shipped directly from the publisher, and must include a shipping manifest or invoice.

Publications that may pose a threat to the safety or security of the jail, or are pornographic in nature, are prohibited. Inmates will be provided a Rejection Notification for all items determined to be unacceptable, prohibited or exceeds the maximum limit.

PHOTOGRAPHS

  • Inmates are only allowed to have five photographs sent in at any one time, but are allowed an unlimited number in their possession.
  • Photogrphs must be mailed in an envelope with nothing else but the photos.  The envelope must say 'PHOTOGRAPHS' on it.
  • The photographs cannot exceed 4 inches by 6 inches in size.
  • Each photograph must have the inmate's name and booking number witten on the back... nothing else.
  • There cannot be anything written on the front of the photo.
  • The photos cannot be pornographic, nor have any nudity, criminal reference, gang activity, violence, etc.
  • Failure to follow these rules will result in the inmate receiving none of the contents.

How to address your Inmate's Postcard or Envelope

POLICIES REGARDING MAILING PHOTOS TO Maricopa County Lower Buckeye Jail

Print the inmate’s name and booking number and NOTHING ELSE on the back of each photo.

Place the photos in an envelope.

Address it the same way you address a postcard.

Print the word PHOTOGRAPHS across the bottom of the front and back of the envelope.

Important Mail Tips

  • Mail is always scanned and inspected for contraband, obscenity and other rule infractions.
  • Assume that everything you write will be read by jail staff and can and will be used against you or your inmate in court.  
  • Never write anything about the inmate's court case you wouldn't want read aloud in court.
  • Mail is considered by the jail to be a privilege. Any violations of the mail policies can result in the inmate's mail privileges being suspended.
  • The introduction of contraband by you into the jail through the mail could result in criminal charges being filed against both you and the inmate.

How to Deposit Money into an Inmate's Account in Maricopa County Lower Buckeye Jail
