Extended visits may be allowed for visitors from other states or those traveling a great distance. The jail system is the fourth largest in the nation and houses all types of male inmates from minimum- to maximum-security. It has been criticized for its inadequate medical care and provision of mental health services, with a U.S. district court judge ruling that the conditions are unconstitutional. Inmates can release cell property at any time while in custody by submitting an Inmate Request Form and photographs may be mailed to the inmate provided the envelope is clearly marked. The contact number for the jail is 602-876-0322. Professionals whose video visits with an inmate should not be recorded and/or charged must go to a MCSO Visitation Center, rather than using remote video visitation services.
