Carroll County Detention Center Inmate Bail & Bonds
Carroll County bail and bond: Berryville jail, two courthouses
Deputies and city officers from Green Forest to Eureka Springs bring adult arrests to the Carroll County Detention Center, 205 Hailey Road, Berryville. The county has a courthouse in Berryville and another in Eureka Springs, both served by one circuit clerk. This page covers bond types, payment, bondsmen, court dates, refunds and the numbers to call.
Look at the roster first: the Sheriff's official inmate search shows names, booking dates and charges. Our Carroll County Inmate Search page covers the rest of an arrest: who is in custody, charges, holds, visits, money and getting a public defender. The jail takes cash or a licensed company's surety bond.
Your first step is a call to the sheriff's office at 870-423-2901, answered around the clock: press 1 for the jail, 2 for dispatch. Ask for the booking number, the bond on every charge and the arresting agency. Walk-ins are taken at 205 Hailey Road on weekdays. Hearing steps are on our Carroll County court guide.
1. Who answers if I call the jail after midnight?
The same number works day and night: 870-423-2901. The phone menu sends you to the jail or to dispatch. If a deputy says the person was booked but the roster is blank, ask for the booking number and the arresting agency. Walk-ins are taken at 205 Hailey Road on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
↑ Back to the question list2. Which kinds of bond will the sheriff take?
For a warrant with an amount already written on it, the jail takes cash, or a licensed company's surety bond. Its own website adds that it generally refuses own-recognizance and property bonds. A judge can still order those in court, so raise them with the lawyer or the judge instead of the jail.
↑ Back to the question list3. The arrest happened on Saturday. Can I pay now?
According to the sheriff, the money window is closed on weekends and holidays. A licensed bondsman deals with the jail directly and may be able to post after hours. To pay cash, call 870-423-2901 and ask if a deputy can take it, or wait for Monday. Hand money only to a deputy or a clerk.
↑ Back to the question list4. What can the weekday window handle?
A window at the Sheriff's Office takes cash or money orders from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, except holidays. The sheriff describes it for jail accounts and warrant payments. If you are paying a bond, call first and ask whether this window or the circuit clerk handles your case. Bring photo ID.
↑ Back to the question list5. Does the kiosk in the lobby take a card?
Yes, but only to add money to a jail account, and that is not a bond. At the window, bring cash or a money order. Circuit court fines and restitution are not paid at the sheriff's office at all. For a bond, ask what form to bring, and skip the personal check.
↑ Back to the question list6. What does No Bond on a warrant really mean?
The judge who signed it decided the person stays in custody until appearing before a judge, and no amount of money changes that. The Arkansas Constitution, Article 2, Section 8, allows outright denial of bail only in capital cases, so other No Bond lines are holds. Ark. Rule of Criminal Procedure 9.6 covers a new felony committed while out on bond. Ask the sheriff which applies.
↑ Back to the question list7. What is a body attachment?
A court order, often over unpaid child support, to bring a person before a judge. The sheriff says most allow release after a set cash payment, while some require a court appearance. The money is held and passed on as the court directs. Ask 870-423-2901 which kind you have, choosing the administrative option during office hours.
↑ Back to the question list8. Will a no-contact order come with the release?
Often, especially in domestic cases. Violating it cancels the bail and can send the person straight back to jail. That includes calls and messages passed along by other people. Read the order before you pick the person up, and keep a copy with the release papers.
↑ Back to the question list9. What is a bondsman's fee?
Ten percent, under Arkansas Code 17-19-101 and following, with no refund even if the case is dropped. A $5,000 bond costs $500. Make sure the agent holds a state license, read the contract for collateral and co-signer duties, and get a copy. The circuit clerk, 870-423-2422, can tell you which companies write bonds in Carroll County.
↑ Back to the question list10. Will a judge accept my property?
Possibly, but not at the jail. Each deed owner signs, the court weighs the value against the bond, and mortgages count against you. Arkansas property is the norm, and the judge decides if it has to sit inside Carroll County. Ask the circuit clerk for the process and filing cost before you hire anyone.
↑ Back to the question list11. Berryville or Eureka Springs: where do I go?
The arrest location decides. The Eastern District courthouse is at 210 West Church Avenue in Berryville, where the circuit clerk can be reached at 870-423-2422. The Western District courthouse is at 44 South Main Street, Eureka Springs, 479-253-8646. District court offices are separate: Berryville 870-423-6247, and Eureka Springs and Green Forest 479-253-8574.
↑ Back to the question list12. What separates district court from circuit court here?
District court hears misdemeanors, traffic, and city cases and often sets the first amount. Circuit court, in the Nineteenth East circuit, hears felonies and juvenile matters, though a felony may get its first look in district court. Rule 8.1 calls for a first appearance without unnecessary delay, normally within two to three days.
↑ Back to the question list13. How can I ask for less?
Only a judge can lower it, and normally a lawyer must file a motion first. The sheriff's staff must follow the order. Rule 9.2 points the judge to the offense, prior record, employment, local roots and attendance at past hearings. Rule 9.3 allows conditions instead of a cash figure. Hand the lawyer pay stubs and something showing a Carroll County address.
↑ Back to the question list14. Is a free lawyer available in Berryville?
Ask the judge for one at the first appearance. The Nineteenth East public defender office in Berryville answers at 870-423-4052. If it has a conflict, a northwest Arkansas conflicts office takes the case. The judge decides who qualifies using an income form.
↑ Back to the question list15. Can I see a juvenile on the roster?
Juvenile records stay private, and the sheriff does not release them. A teen's case is heard in circuit court's juvenile division. There's no cash bond, and a detention hearing settles whether the youth goes home. Phone the circuit clerk at 870-423-2422 to learn which county-run juvenile detention center holds Carroll County youth and when the hearing is.
↑ Back to the question list16. What if my person skips a hearing?
Expect a warrant, and cash posted for the bond is at risk. A bonding company has a short deadline to return the person, and after that it bills the co-signer. Call the circuit clerk or the district court that day, and have a lawyer ask for a new date.
↑ Back to the question list17. When does the money return?
As long as no court date was missed, the court refunds cash once the case closes. Fines, costs and restitution come out first, and the check is made to the name on the receipt. Keep it and update your address with the clerk. Premium money paid to a bondsman is not coming back. Money put on a jail account online or at the lobby kiosk is separate from bond.
↑ Back to the question list18. Which Carroll County courthouse has my relative's case, and what are the numbers?
Carroll County runs two judicial districts, so there are two circuit courthouses and three district court locations. Where the arrest happened usually decides which one you need:
- Circuit Court, Eastern District (felonies, juvenile, appeals): 210 W. Church Avenue, Berryville, AR 72616 · 870-423-2422
- Circuit Court, Western District (felonies, juvenile, appeals): 44 S. Main Street, Eureka Springs, AR 72632 · 479-253-8646
- District Court, Berryville Department (misdemeanors, traffic, first felony hearings): 103 S. Spring Street, Berryville, AR 72616 · 870-423-6247
- District Court, Eureka Springs Department: 44 S. Main Street, Eureka Springs, AR 72632 · 479-253-8574
- District Court, Green Forest Department: Green Forest, AR 72638. The Berryville or Eureka Springs office can give its number and session days.
One circuit clerk covers both circuit courthouses. The 19th Judicial Circuit–East serves only Carroll County, so its judge and prosecutor work here full time.
↑ Back to the question list19. What should we expect if federal agents charged someone from Carroll County?
Federal charges skip the Berryville jail window and the county's bondsmen. The federal court for Carroll County is the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas, Harrison Division, at the federal building in Harrison, 402 North Walnut Street, Harrison, AR 72601, 833-853-0345. The steps usually look like this:
- A federal agency, for example the FBI, DEA or ATF, files the charge.
- The person appears in front of a U.S. magistrate judge, which can happen in Fayetteville or Fort Smith.
- Pretrial Services checks the person's background and reports to the judge.
- The government may ask for detention, and a hearing on that is held within days.
- Release, if granted, comes with conditions such as supervision and limits on travel.
While a federal case is open, the U.S. Marshals decide which jail holds the defendant. The 205 Hailey Road jail may or may not be one of them. The Marshals' office is U.S. Marshals Service, 30 South 6th Street, Fort Smith, AR 72901, 479-289-7470 or 479-424-5000 (call either).
↑ Back to the question list20. Could ICE pick someone up from the Berryville jail after bond?
That can happen. A detainer filed under 8 CFR 287.7 asks the jail to alert ICE and hold the person for up to 48 hours after release would occur, and weekends and holidays count. Arkansas has no law barring a jail from complying.
The Carroll County case doesn't end when ICE steps in, and missed dates still cause warrants. The ICE New Orleans Field Office, 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087, 504-318-2360 runs ICE operations in Arkansas. Detainees from northwest Arkansas are often taken to Louisiana centers such as:
- LaSalle ICE Processing Center: 830 Pinehill Road, Jena, LA 71342 · 318-992-1600
- Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center: 1133 Hampton Dupre Road, Pine Prairie, LA 70576 · 337-599-2400
Once the person is in ICE custody, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System (https://locator.ice.gov/odls/) with the A-number and country of birth, or with the full name and country of birth.
↑ Back to the question list21. How do I check whether someone left the Berryville jail for a prison or federal custody?
A person booked on Hailey Road can be moved to a state unit, handed to federal officers or shipped to ICE. These searches cover each place:
- Carroll County jail: Carroll County Inmate Search. Enter the last and first name and open the record for booking time, charges and bond. Juveniles aren't listed.
- VINE: VINELink (https://vinelink.vineapps.com/). Choose Arkansas, enter the name and search. You'll find out whether the person is locked up and where. Free release alerts can go to your phone by call or text.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator (https://www.bop.gov/inmateloc/). Use the register number, or name with race, sex and age. A pretrial prisoner may be missing, and the Marshals at 479-289-7470 or 479-424-5000 (call either) can confirm.
- Arkansas Division of Correction: Arkansas Division of Correction Inmate Search (https://apps.ark.org/inmate_info/). Look up by ADC number or last name to get the unit, photo and parole date.
22. Who confirms the bond and court date before I drive to Berryville or Eureka Springs?
The sheriff sets the window's hours and what it accepts, and both get revised, so phone before you go. The jail line at 870-423-2901 runs around the clock and can explain bond. For a felony date, call the circuit clerk at 870-423-2422 in Berryville or 479-253-8646 in Eureka Springs. District court dates come from 870-423-6247 in Berryville or 479-253-8574 in Eureka Springs.
