Arrested in Solano County: Fairfield's three jails

Solano County sits between the Bay Area and Sacramento, and adults arrested there pass through Fairfield. Booking happens at the Solano County Justice Center. Longer stays and sentenced people often go to Claybank or Stanton, both on Claybank Road.

The Solano County Inmate Search names the jail site, the charges and the bail. A fresh arrest may not be there yet, so the booking desk can confirm it.

Call booking at 707-784-7112 and ask where your person is being kept. Then open our Solano bail page to learn about getting out, or our Solano court page for the hearing.

10. Which court takes federal cases from Solano County?

Federal agents from the DEA, the U.S. Marshals, and the FBI handle federal arrests. Hearings in Fairfield cases happen at the U.S. courthouse in Sacramento, 501 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, for the Sacramento Division (Eastern District of California). Clerk's phone: 916-930-4000. Soon after booking, the defendant appears before a federal magistrate judge. Before court, pretrial services asks about community ties and prior record. Bail is not a fixed price in federal court. Applying federal bail law, the magistrate leads a detention hearing and decides what conditions apply.

During the case, the Marshals often house the person in a nearby jail. Check the sheriff's jail list, where the hold may show. Or call the U.S. Eastern District office of the Marshals Service in Sacramento at 916-930-2030 (501 I Street, Suite 5600, Sacramento, CA 95814). Those given federal prison time leave the county jail to the BOP in time. Track their facility with the BOP inmate locator.

11. ICE detainer: the steps

  • Booking prints are checked through national records that ICE reviews. When ICE believes the inmate could be removable, it can send a detainer to the jailers.
  • The detainer asks the Solano jail to hold them for an ICE transfer up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)). Fairfield jail staff are guided by Gov. Code 7284.6, part of California's Values Act, which keeps release on time and confines ICE notice or transfer to a warrant a judge issued or a qualifying serious conviction. Federal agents use that time to schedule a pickup.
  • A paid bail doesn't lift an ICE hold.
  • ICE agents usually pick them up in person during the hold. Deadline passed? At that point the request has ended and staff lets them go.
  • To reach the San Francisco field office of ICE at 630 Sansome Street, Room 590, San Francisco, CA 94111, tel. 415-365-8800.
  • ICE's web search, the detainee locator, finds their current center by A-number and home country. The locator has a name search, which needs first and last name, nation of birth, and birth date.
  • The last stop is up to ICE.

12. Bound for a CDCR unit from Fairfield? What the move looks like

California's prison system, the CDCR, takes those sentenced to state time. First, most people stay in the Fairfield jail until the state schedules the move. Then, they go to a reception unit where they're processed. At intake, staff check their medical and mental health, gang affiliation and security level. Their last stop is the unit that suits them.

The CDCR inmate locator lists where they're housed after intake. The California state prison page lists prison addresses.

13. Where can I find Solano County mugshots?

No. Solano keeps mugshots off the Solano inmate lookup.

PC 13665 sets the state rule. It covers social media posts. Most nonviolent arrests fall under it. Agencies may not post those photos there. Photos posted there expire after 14 days. Fugitives and threats are the exceptions. The sheriff's own website isn't covered. Still, most California rosters show no photos.

ICE photos are released only through ICE's online public records request, though release isn't promised. If a booking picture hasn't been posted, newsroom requests go through sheriff's staff at 707-784-7000. U.S. booking photos stay private. Their rule is strict: the Marshals share a mugshot only for a fugitive or escaped prisoner, to aid an arrest or alert the public or when the public must be kept safe right away.

15. Is a Vallejo warrant arrest held at the Justice Center?

Most likely. Warrant arrests from Benicia to Dixon are booked at the Justice Center downtown. The Union Avenue clerk, 707-207-7300, can get you back on calendar. Sheriff's deputies handle warrant questions by phone, local and statewide. The Hall of Justice offers an online portal for checking a case. Families in Dixon and Benicia can ask the clerk which courtroom has the case. If you carry one, defense counsel can schedule surrender, which tends to make the first hearing go more smoothly for everyone.
