Lee County Jail - Core Facility Inmate Search
Every Florida county, including Lee County, follows the same basic bail rules. Most defendants have a constitutional right to pretrial release on reasonable conditions, except those charged with capital or life felonies when the proof is evident, or those no conditions could safely release. Many minor misdemeanors and traffic offenses end with a notice to appear. Bond amounts for other charges come from a uniform statewide bond schedule set by the Florida Supreme Court.

The Lee County Jail - Core Facility is licensed for 1552 inmates at any given time, but it often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. At most city and county jails in Florida, at least 35-40% of the inmate population turns over monthly, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months, while about 8-9% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in one of the Lee County facilities much longer.

Providing for the medium to maximum security needs for Lee County the Lee County Jail - Core Facility houses up to 1216 inmates. Both male and female inmates are housed at this location, and they are both able to access the wide range of classes, programs, and services.
Licensed teachers are in place each day from 8am to 11am and again 1pm to 3pm Monday to Friday to provide GED classes and even elementary school education for any of the inmates who have not finished school for any reason. Each student will be met where they are in their education and the teachers, education assistants, and GED instructors will help each student to understand the topics and gain credits for their home school. In addition, they offer self help groups including AA, NA, CA, health classes, and treatment with counseling for abuse, anger management, alternatives to domestic violence, parenting skills, and others.
The Core Facility at 2501 Ortiz Ave., Fort Myers, FL 33905 is the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s main housing jail. It is a medium- and maximum-security building with 1,216 beds, and it is where female inmates are held. It also runs the jail system’s food, medical and laundry services. The Sheriff’s corrections line for the Core is (239) 477-1700. The Sheriff’s Office also runs a minimum-security Community Program Unit with 336 beds that offers re-entry skills and alcohol and drug treatment programs. Ask the jail whether your loved one qualifies.
No one is booked at Ortiz Avenue. Arrests are processed at the downtown jail on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and people are transferred here after booking and first appearance. That hearing must take place within 24 hours of arrest under Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.130, in front of a judge of the Twentieth Judicial Circuit. The Core holds pretrial detainees and people serving county sentences of up to 12 months. Someone sentenced to more than a year goes to the Florida Department of Corrections. Some people sentenced in Lee County never stay in the Core at all. The Day Work Program, a partnership between the Twentieth Circuit, Lee County Probation and the Sheriff’s Office, lets a judge order people to serve their sentence doing supervised community labor at least two days a week while keeping their job and home life. Participants report to 2501 Ortiz Avenue. The coordinator can be reached at (239) 477-1718, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
All in-person video visitation for Lee County happens here. Visitors register and book through GTL at leecountyfl.gtlvisitme.com, then either come to Ortiz Avenue and visit on a monitor or connect remotely from home. The visitation center is open 5 a.m.–11 p.m., seven days a week; its number is (239) 258-3773. The rules are strict. An inmate gets two one-hour visits a week, with up to two visitors at a time, from a list of five names that can be changed only every four months. Visitors 16 and older must show a photo ID with date of birth, children must be with an adult (babies under one don’t count toward the limit), and you should be there 15 minutes before your time. Florida’s bail rules are the same for everyone housed here. Article I, Section 14 of the state constitution entitles most defendants to reasonable pretrial release, except in capital or life felonies where the proof is evident or the presumption great, or when no conditions can protect the community. The Florida Supreme Court’s uniform bond schedule for 2026 (AOSC25-69) sets minimum bonds used before first appearance. Local chief judges may raise them, and the first appearance judge may set any lawful amount. Some offenses can’t be bonded out until a judge has seen the case (sections 903.046 and 907.041, Florida Statutes). You can pay the full bond or hire a licensed bail bond agent, whose premium on a state bond is 10% under the rates described by the Department of Financial Services. To check for warrants, search FDLE’s wanted persons list, which doesn’t include every warrant. We couldn’t confirm which LeeTran route, if any, stops near Ortiz Avenue, so most visitors drive. For gas, there’s a RaceTrac at 5150 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and a 7-Eleven at 1350 Ortiz Ave., both open 24 hours.
