The Leon Regional Juvenile Detention Center is a 45 bed facility that hosues the juvenile offenders from the counties of Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, Franklin, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla. It provides around the clock surveillance and monitoring of the youth to ensure their safety and security, and staff interact throughout the day with the students. The operation of the facility is not only a group effort between the counties, but also includes contracts for medical support, mental health services, and an agreement with the local public school board that supplies teachers and curriculum for the facility. Each of these contracts is key to the success of any programs within and help to address any concerns the youth may have. Counseling, substance abuse treatment, anger management, life skills, social skills, and regular classes are all provided. Parents may access parenting classes to improve their skills in that aspect, and there are arts and other classes to enrich other areas of life as well. Family reunification after release is achieved through family counseling where needed and regular phone calls and visits.
