Most criminal defendants in Marion County are entitled to pretrial release on reasonable conditions under the Florida Constitution. People arrested for minor misdemeanors or traffic offenses are often given a notice to appear. For other offenses, the Florida Supreme Court sets minimum bond amounts in a uniform statewide schedule.

If you know the charge, the Florida uniform statewide bond schedule for 2026 shows the starting bond, though local circuits can set higher amounts and the first appearance judge can change it. The county accepts cash, a surety bond, or a property bond, and can release offenders on personal recognizance.

Here’s what to know about the Marion Regional Juvenile Detention Center’s population:

  • Licensed capacity: 60 inmates, though the jail often has to make room for more, especially on weekends
  • Typical monthly turnover at city and county jails: at least 35-40%
  • Additional turnover every 90 days: 25-30%
  • Additional turnover every six months: 15-20%
  • Held six to twelve months: about 8-9%

Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in one of the Marion County facilities much longer.

Every year, Marion County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 37,200 offenders.
