Palm Beach West Detention Center
Palm Beach West Detention Center
You can call the 998-bed Palm Beach West Detention Center 24 hours a day for inmate information at 561-712-2971.
This facility processes offenders arrested for misdemeanors and felonies. They undergo booking and processing, and depending on their charges, may remain incarcerated until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or held until their trial concludes.
Use the inmate search tool to see who is currently in custody.
Inmates serving less than one year will do their time at this jail, while those with longer sentences will be transferred to the Florida State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page provides information on the visitation schedule, funding an inmate's account, mailing them, receiving phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bond details, and commissary purchases.
It is useful to keep the inmate's jail ID or booking number for correspondence purposes. If it’s not available online, contact Palm Beach West Detention Center at 561-712-2971 for assistance.

Palm Beach West Detention Center Inmate Search
Florida law entitles most people arrested in Palm Beach County to reasonable pretrial release, unless they are charged with a capital or life felony and the proof is evident, or a judge finds no conditions would protect the public. Lower-level misdemeanors and traffic cases are often handled with a notice to appear. Bond amounts for most other charges come from a uniform statewide bond schedule set by the Florida Supreme Court.
The easiest way to learn an offender’s bail at the Palm Beach West Detention Center is to call 561-712-2971. For a general idea, compare the charge to the Florida uniform statewide bond schedule for 2026. Circuits may set higher local amounts, and a judge at first appearance, usually within 24 hours, can set a different bond. The county takes cash, surety bonds, and property bonds, and can also release an offender on personal recognizance.
The Palm Beach West Detention Center’s license covers 998 inmates, but the jail often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Florida experience a monthly turnover of at least 35-40%, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months, with about 8-9% of inmates staying six to twelve months. Those who stay longer than a year usually face serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in one of the Palm Beach County facilities much longer.
Every year, Palm Beach County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 64,580 offenders.

⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessAs one of two adult facilities in Palm Beach County the Palm Beach West Detention Center is located in Belle Glade, Florida, and was completed in 1983. Since it’s opening it has remained in constant use, and it has undergone expansion to create a capacity of 998. The primary facility is the Palm Beach Main Detention Center.
The Palm Beach West Detention Center is focused on programing and improving the access of inmates to education, vocational training, rehabilitative programs, and providing skills that will be used throughout their life. Programming includes religious services, Another Way educational program encouraging alternative decision making to reduce recidivism and encourage making choices that do not lead to criminal activity, personal development, transition and reentry services, and other resources from the community as well as the facility to assist inmates in their own development and growth to learn new ways of life.
The West Detention Center is the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office jail for the Glades region, at 38811 James Wheeler Way in Belle Glade, FL 33430. It sits along State Road 80 on the north side of town, and some map listings show it as 38840 SR-80. The jail first opened in 1983, and a $72 million expansion and renovation was completed on April 9, 2011. It now has 998 beds and holds people at every custody level: minimum, medium and maximum. PBSO says 188 corrections professionals work here, and most housing units use direct supervision, with deputies stationed among the inmates. The facility’s number is (561) 712-2971. For bond and records questions, call PBSO Inmate Records at (561) 688-4340.
Programs include the “Another Way” drug education program, religious services, self-improvement classes and re-entry help through community partners. Like the Main Detention Center, the West Detention Center holds people awaiting trial and people serving county sentences of a year or less. Longer sentences are served in state prison. Everyone in custody must see a judge within 24 hours of arrest (Rule 3.130), and cases are heard in Palm Beach County’s 15th Judicial Circuit.
Under Article I, Section 14 of Florida’s Constitution, most people have a right to pretrial release on reasonable conditions. The exceptions are capital or life felonies where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and cases where no condition can keep the community safe. Before first appearance, the Florida Supreme Court’s 2026 statewide bond schedule (AOSC25-69) sets minimum bonds. The 15th Circuit’s chief judge can require more, the first appearance judge can set something different, and some charges need a judge’s review before release (sections 903.011, 903.046 and 907.041). PBSO accepts cash bonds in cash, money orders or certified checks (never personal checks), or card payments through GovPayNet at (877) 392-2455. A licensed bondsman can post a surety bond instead. Florida requires bondsmen to charge the premium rate they filed with the state (section 648.33). Minor misdemeanors often end with a notice to appear. Released inmates leave through the Visitor’s Lobby.
Visits are by video and must be booked ahead at jailvisit.pbso.org. The closest visiting site is the West County Video Visitation Center, 2890 State Road 15, Belle Glade ((561) 992-1250). The Central Video Visitation Center on Weisman Way in West Palm Beach also connects to this jail. Adults need a valid, unexpired government photo ID. Children must be with a parent or legal guardian carrying the original birth certificate or guardianship paperwork. Arrive 15 minutes early and leave phones and smart watches behind. PBSO enforces its dress code strictly.
Mail here is postcards only (legal mail excepted), sent to P.O. Box 1450, Belle Glade, FL 33430. Include the booked name, jacket number and cell assignment. Postcards must be 3.5 by 5 to 4.25 by 6 inches, in blue or black ink. You can deposit money online with Access Corrections’ SmartDeposit, or at the kiosk in the West Detention Center visitation lobby, which takes cash and cards for a $4.50 fee. Phones run through Securus. Property release requires the inmate’s written authorization and your photo ID, Monday–Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Look people up with PBSO’s inmate search. Check FDLE’s wanted persons list for warrants, though it isn’t complete.
Palm Tran Route 40 connects Wellington and Belle Glade along SR 80, and Route 47 links South Bay, Belle Glade and Pahokee. We couldn’t confirm a stop at the jail itself, so call Palm Tran at (561) 841-4287 before you rely on the bus. What should you know about the booking process at Palm Beach West Detention Center?
Once arrested, the person is taken to Palm Beach West Detention Center for booking, a process that confirms identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released on their own recognizance, posted for bail, or held until court.
Staying silent is key during this process, as anything spoken can be used as evidence in court. It’s best to wait for legal counsel before responding to questions.
Steps involved in booking at Palm Beach West Detention Center include:
- Confirming identity.
- Taking mugshots for record.
- Medical, mental health, and substance history questioning.

To check on an offender’s bond amount, contact Palm Beach West Detention Center at 561-712-2971.
Steps to pay bail in Palm Beach County
After an arrest, individuals are brought to Palm Beach West Detention Center in Belle Glade for processing. Following this, three possible outcomes exist:
1. The individual may be released without posting bail, with a promise to appear in court.
2. The individual could be held in jail until their court date.
3. Bail or bond can be posted for release; for more information, contact 561-712-2971.
Bail payment can be handled through various means.
- Pay a cash bond in full at the bonding window inside the jail or at the clerk of court, by cash, cashier's check or money order; a lobby kiosk or online bond vendor often takes debit and credit cards for an extra fee, and you should bring the inmate's full name and booking number (the jail can be reached at 561-712-2971).
- Licensed bail bond agents in Palm Beach County are available for assistance.
- Land or a home can often serve as bond collateral: the owner provides a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value showing clear title and equity of at least the bond amount, commonly double, and the court that set bail approves the pledge.
