The Douglas County Jail in Georgia has a total capacity of 1,600, but it is currently rated by the state for just 800 inmates, and houses an average daily population of 740 inmates, with 85 staff members supervising the facility. The 500,000 square foot, four-story, 1500 bed facility was built in 2012 on seven acres of land.

The detention area includes maximum security cells, a medical facility, a mental health section, a laundry and kitchen that can sdupport up to 1500 inmates, a dispatch area, a state of the art intake and booking area, and an area for inmate releases, separate from the booking area. Additional buildings on the site are a large visitor center that doubles as an on-site video visitation and bonding area, and a trustee dorm, and a maintenance shop.

Of the total number of inmates in custody, 110 of them (90 men and 20 women) are considered inmate workers, working alongside the staff to keep the jail clean, keep the inmates fed and contribute to the overall maintenance of the facility.

It is located at 8470 Earl D. Lee Blvd. in Douglasville, GA 30134, and can be reached 24 hours a day by calling 770-942-2121.

The Douglas County Jail replaced the 'old jail' on Church Street, built in the early 80s, which was then used as a location prop for many movies, including  “All Eyez on Me,” the biopic of rapper Tupac Shakur, and “Logan Lucky,” described as a NASCAR heist that stars Daniel Craig (James Bond), Channing Tatum, Hillary Swank, Katherine Heigl, Adam Driver and Seth MacFarlane. It was torn down the end of 2019 to make way for a $40 million downtown community revitalization project.

Recent Bookings & Arrests

What is the booking process for the Douglas County Jail?

After being arrested, the offender is brought to the Douglas County Jail for booking, which is the detailed process of identifying, classifying, deciding on charges, and whether the person will either be released on their own recognizance, allowed to be released on bail, or moved into the jail until their court date.

The first thing every newly arrested person must do is close their mouth. Everything an offender says may be used against them, so the best thing to do is remain silent when questioned about the arrest and what led to it.

These are the steps of booking someone into the Douglas County Jail:

  • Personal identification.
  • Mugshot(s).
  • Questions about medical history, mental health, drug and alcohol use, and gang affiliations.
  • Possible DNA.
  • Full body search.
  • Property forfeiture.
  • Free phone call.

If you have any questions about when you can pay an offender's bond and what the cost will be, call the facility at 770-942-2121.

Inmate Bail and Bonding

How do you pay bail for someone who has been arrested in Douglas County?

When an offender is arrested and brought to the Douglas County Jail in Douglasville for booking, there are several outcomes after being processed.

1. The offender will be released with no bail, promising to return on a specific date to appear before a judge in either Municipal or Douglas County Court.
2. The offender is ordered to remain in jail until their court date.
3. The offender is allowed to be released after paying a specified bond or bail.  Call 770-942-2121 to get the exact amount.

The payment of an offender's bail or bond can take many shapes.

  • A cash bond is paid in full at the jail's bonding window or the clerk of court, usually by cash, cashier's check or money order, and many jails also take debit or credit cards through a lobby kiosk or an online bond vendor for an added fee; bring the inmate's full name and booking number, and the jail's number is 770-942-2121.
  • It can be paid using a bail company, licensed to do business in Douglas County.
  • Many courts accept land or a home as bond collateral; the owner shows clear title and equity of at least the bond amount, often double, using a deed and a recent tax or appraisal value, and the court that set bail approves the property.
