The sheriff will say which partner jail took the person, and then you deal with that jail directly: - Hardin County Correctional Center, 1116 14th Ave, Eldora, IA 50627; 641-939-8189. - Butler County Jail, 428 Sixth Street, Allison, IA 50602; 319-346-6621. - Wright County Jail, 719 2nd Street SW, Clarion, IA 50525; 515-602-6152. - Cerro Gordo County Jail, 17262 Lark Avenue, Mason City, IA 50401; 641-421-3019. 2. How is the opening bond decided?

Before a hearing, Iowa's uniform bond schedule applies: $300 for simple misdemeanors, $1,000 for serious ones, $2,000 for aggravated ones, and $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000 for class D, C or B felonies. The magistrate in Hampton may change it at the initial appearance.

3. Which charges have no set bond?

Forcible felonies, domestic abuse assault, no-contact or protective order violations and stalking are on that list, along with first-, second- or third-degree sexual abuse, a Hampton meth case for production, dealing or possession with intent, a dangerous-weapon intimidation count, plus a felon holding a firearm. People booked on these stay in whichever partner jail holds them until a Second Judicial District judicial officer sets conditions.

4. Which bond types are allowed?

  • Cash: the full amount, returned at the end if the defendant attended each hearing.
  • Surety: a licensed agent's bond; the agent's premium is not returned.
  • Real estate: sworn equity in Iowa property.

Because the person sits in another county's jail, ask the sheriff at 641-456-2731 where and how the bond should be paid.

5. What does Senate File 2399 mean for release?

Since July 1, 2026, walking out on a promise to appear, with no money down, is kept for simple and serious misdemeanors, and only when the offense is neither violent nor drug-related. Setting bail below schedule now requires the magistrate's written reasons, and the Judicial Council owes the Supreme Court an inflation-adjusted schedule no later than July 1, 2027.

6. Where is the Clerk of District Court?

On the second floor of the Franklin County Courthouse, 12 1st Avenue NW, Suite 203, Hampton, IA 50441. The phone is 641-456-5626 and the email is countyclerk.franklin@iowacourts.gov. Cash bonds are logged and refunded here.

7. What happens if the defendant misses court?

Bond can be forfeited and an arrest warrant issued. Iowa Code section 811.6 gives the defendant and any bail company a 30-day window before the forfeiture is entered as a judgment. Intentionally missing court is also a crime: a serious misdemeanor, or a class D felony if the original case is a felony.

8. How do I get bond money back?

Once the case is resolved and every appearance was made, the clerk refunds the cash after the court subtracts fines, costs or restitution. The clerk's office at 641-456-5626 can explain the timing. To add funds to an inmate's account in a partner jail, see our money guide.

9. Does Iowa bail cover federal or immigration holds?

No. A federal case runs on its own track. Federal cases from Hampton are filed in the Central Division, whose clerk's office is at 320 6th Street, Sioux City, IA 51101, 712-233-3900, and a U.S. magistrate decides release. With an ICE detainer, Iowa Code chapter 27A has the holding jail keep the person for immigration officers, so posting the Iowa bond can end in transfer. The ICE locator tracks people in ICE custody.

10. Where do juveniles go if Franklin has no jail?

Not to the four partner jails. A youth ordered into detention is placed at the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center, 2317 Rick Collins Way, Eldora, IA 50627, 641-858-3852, and the detention hearing must happen inside 1 working day.

Bail on Franklin County Charges

Bail information for Franklin County, Iowa prisoners

Even while a Franklin County defendant waits in Eldora, Allison, Clarion or Mason City, the Hampton court, part of Amy Moore's Second District, decides the chapter 811 release terms. Starting July 1, 2026 (SF 2399), Iowa no longer allows posting a 10 percent deposit, so families pay the full bond in cash or use a surety approved under section 811.3.
