Jackson County Bail and Bond, Maquoketa, Iowa

Jackson County fronts the Mississippi River across from Illinois, with Maquoketa as its seat and Bellevue, Preston, Sabula and a string of river and farm towns around it. Since late November 2024, people arrested here are held at the 50-bed jail inside the Law Enforcement Center, 1700 E. Maple Street, Maquoketa, IA 52060. The old 11-bed jail on South Niagara Street is closed. Call the Sheriff's Office at 563-652-3312 on weekdays, or county dispatch at 563-652-2468 any time.

Is the person booked into the Maquoketa jail?

Search by name on VINELink or by phone at 888-742-8463, then confirm with the Sheriff's Office at 563-652-3312 or dispatch at 563-652-2468 after hours. Because the new building also rents beds to other counties, including Scott, a name on the list may belong to an out-of-county case. Our inmate search page covers other lookups.

How did Senate File 2399 change bail?

From July 1, 2026, Iowa allows release on a written promise alone only on the two lowest misdemeanor levels, simple and serious, and only where no drugs or violence are alleged, along with a medical exception the law newly created. When bail is set below the schedule, or some other release is chosen, the Maquoketa judge has to give the reasons in writing. Amounts stay the same until the Judicial Council's inflation update, due July 1, 2027.

Who leaves the Maple Street jail, and on what bond, is up to Henry Latham's Seventh District bench. Bond on lesser charges may come from the statewide schedule, while others are set at the initial appearance. Senate File 2399 changed things for Maquoketa families on July 1, 2026: no more tenth-down deposits, only a complete cash bond or a judge-approved 811.3 surety. A Maquoketa family that owns Iowa land may pledge it as a property bond under Iowa Code 811.3, and Latham's judges often pair release with terms like staying away from the alleged victim.
