Lenawee County bail and bond: Adrian, warrants from elsewhere, and what to pay

The Lenawee County Jail is run by the Sheriff, and the county seat is Adrian. This page walks through bond types, bond costs and what happens when someone is also wanted on a warrant from somewhere else. It also explains how a judge can change a bond.

Search a last name in the Lenawee County Inmate Search to learn whether your loved one is booked and if a bond shows. Want warrants and mugshots too? Our Jail Roster has them.

Ring the 2A District Court at 517-264-4675 and ask what bond was set. Next, our court page shows how hearings work.

1. How do I know if a Lenawee jail booking has happened?

Use Lenawee County Inmate Search with the full name. Late-night arrests can take hours to post. If you see a booking but no bond, the person may be waiting for arraignment.

2. He was picked up on a warrant from another county. Who sets bond?

Court Rule 6.104 says that when a person is arrested outside the county of the offense, the local court decides on release and may set a promise to appear in 14 days. If bond is not met, the person is moved to the district of the offense by the next regular business day.

Find the case county and its clerk, and ask what they set.

3. Will paying here free someone who also has a hold?

No. A hold from another agency, a probation or parole detainer, or a second charge stops the release even after the first bond is met. Look at every charge listed in the search before you pay.

4. Is bail required, or can he sign a promise?

The court rule favors a promise. The judge must free the person on personal recognizance or an unsecured bond unless that would not assure court attendance or safety. Money bail needs stated reasons on the record.

5. What forms of money bail can Lenawee judges use?

Full cash, a 10 percent cash deposit, a surety bond for a quarter of the bail, or real property with the court's consent. Cash is paid to the court. A bond company posts a surety bond itself.

6. Does the court keep part of a 10 percent deposit?

Not unless three things are true: the case is discharged, the crime falls under MCL 780.66, and there was a conviction. That is the rule since May 1, 2026. Fines, costs and assessments may still be taken from a refund.

Back to questions ↑

7. What should I ask a bondsman before signing?

Ask for the fee, whether any is refunded, what collateral is needed, and what happens if the person misses court. Michigan sets no premium rate that we could find. Agents must hold an insurance producer license, and the court must approve them.

Back to questions ↑

8. Can I use a house as security?

The court may agree if you prove its value. Ask the court clerk whether Lenawee wants an appraisal, whether the house must be in the county, and how long filing takes.

Back to questions ↑

9. What is interim bond for a misdemeanor?

When a person is arrested without a warrant for a misdemeanor and no magistrate is available, the sheriff or the deputy in charge of the jail may accept an interim bond. The amount cannot top the maximum fine and must be at least 20 percent of the minimum fine. You get a receipt.

10. Can a judge deny bond for a violent felony?

Only in the groups the Constitution names, with proof evident or presumption great. Examples include murder, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, armed robbery and some repeat violent felonies. The court explains its reasons on a custody order.

11. How do we get a court-appointed lawyer?

Tell the judge at arraignment that you cannot pay and complete the financial form. For help locating Lenawee's defender system, the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission is at 517-657-3066.

Back to questions ↑

12. What happens to a 16-year-old or 17-year-old?

Both are juveniles under Michigan law. They cannot sit in an adult jail. The county's family court decides where detention happens; ask the clerk in Adrian which facility is used.
