The 40-bed Adams County Jail houses all offenders from Adams County on misdemeanor and felony charges, both male and female, as they wait on their trial or serve a sentence. The majority of sentences are short, most ending in less than one full year.
Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.

Medical and mental health care are both provided, along with healthy meals, exercise opportunities, social interactions and recreation activities, along with clothing and laundry. To further support mental health of all inmates and help maintain a safe facility for everyone, inmates are also provided with access to phones, and kiosk to allow continued contact with their friends and family.
Phone calls, video visits, emails, and inmate accounts are all connected to one account. This may be accessed from the kiosks that are found in the lobby of the Adams County Jail, and visits can be scheduled through the same program online.

Newspapers
Newspapers may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher.
Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
Ask the Adams County Jail whether books can be mailed in, and whether they must come straight from a publisher or retailer such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
