Within Jackson County, the juvenile detention center houses up to 40 juveniles at one time. They are in the facility due to arrest on delinquent acts, to ensure they arrive at their court date, if they are assigned to detention as part of their adjudication, or for their own safety and the safety of the community. It consists of two housing pods with individual cells in each, allowing each of the residents to have a private sleeping area and keeping the male and female residents separated. Within the common area of each of the housing units is a living space, classroom, and eating area, and there are both indoor and outdoor recreational spaces. Staff interact with the residents each day and are present at all activities, able to encourage and display positive social interactions, and ensure that all students are where they should be at all times. During detention youth will receive all of the necessary medical care, healthy meals and snacks, a continuation of their education from their local public school, and access to clean clothing and bedding. Therapy or other treatments are provided for mental health and life skills.
