About the Union County Detention Center
Union, SC is the home of the Union County Detention Center that is made up of the Pretrial Division and the Prison Work Camp. Together they offer housing to 100 inmates who are being held by the county or the city of Union, as they await their trial or as they serve their sentences afterward. Many detainees are serving sentences of 90 days or less, allowing them to remain in the community and close to their families while they are incarcerated, which can make the transition upon release easier on both. The Prison Work Camp holds inmates who are working full time jobs while they are serving their state sentence. Each of the two locations are run by the local sheriff’s office, and they are located at 1658 Jonesville Highway in Union, SC. While remaining within the facility, detainees are still offered a chance to talk to their loved ones and to contact them through mail, phone call, and have them visit. These visits and contact allow inmates to maintain their outside relationships and ensure they have a support system for when they are released, that will help them to reintegrate into the community. Mail is sent to the facility itself, and will be checked for contraband before it is provided to the inmate. Phones are accessible each day during their free hours and are through CIDNET. Friends and family can create accounts at customer.cidnet.net to fund these phone calls, and the jailpackstore.com allows them to fund the commissary account of their loved one while they are incarcerated. Visits are done via a video visitation system through CIDNET, and they are available remotely for those who prefer to visit from home, or at the location for anyone who does not have the ability to video call from home or who prefer to do so from the location. Visiting hours are on Saturday and are scheduled between 12pm and 3pm. This is done through the website customer.cident.net and all visits will be around the existing schedule of each inmate.
