The building is 47,785 square feet and was built at a cost of $11.9 million. The jail itself has 96 beds but the infrastructure will allow it to expand to 150 beds at a later date with little cost.
Inmates at this jail are offenders who have been arrested in Gillespie County that were recently charged with a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.
Inmate services include an online money deposit, video visitation, digital email messaging and outgoing phone calls.
The Gillespie County Jail now offers remote visitation and inmate messaging services. Prior to visiting or messaging, visitors must create an account on NCIC.com by following the provided instructions. The account setup is free, but there are optional payment options available. Once the account is set up, visitors need to select an appointment time and "reserve" the time slot, which is still 30 minutes long.
There is a charge for remote visitation, priced at $0.30 per minute. Visitors can either pay for this charge or, if the inmate has funds available, the inmate can cover it. Messaging also incurs a fee.
For onsite visits at the Jail, there is no charge, and appointments still need to be made through NCIC.com prior to the visit.

- When visiting onsite, visitors must possess a valid state driver's license or state identification card.
- Individuals under 17 years old are only allowed in the facility with a guardian.
- Proper conduct is required from all visitors. Any improper conduct may result in termination of the visit and potential restrictions on future visits. Visitors showing signs of alcohol or drug use will not be allowed visitation.
- The jail administration reserves the right to deny visitation to individuals deemed to be improperly dressed or suspected of carrying contraband.

Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Gillespie County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
