Jack County Jail Inmate Search
Jack County Inmate Search: Who Is Held at FM 3344
Use this page when someone close to you was just arrested and you're trying to learn where they are held and what happens next. Adults booked here go to the Jack County Jail, 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458, run by the Sheriff's Jail Division.
The official lookup is the county's Jail Population Report, an online list of people held at FM 3344. Search it by last name, then open the entry to read what the jail has posted. Fresh bookings can show up late, and someone let out earlier today may already be off it.
Ring the jail desk first at 940-567-2221, where staff can confirm custody, charges and the bond. Once you know the bond, our bail page walks through each way to pay it.
1. Using the Jack County jail list
- Open the Jail Population Report on a phone or computer. Give it a few seconds to load.
- Type the last name only. Odd spellings, hyphens and married names trip up a search, so try each version you know.
- Pick the entry with the right first name and age, then write down every detail it shows, such as a booking number, charges or a bond.
- Call 940-567-2221 to double-check. A web list can lag, and only the jail can say what is true this minute.
When you call, give the birthday and spell out the full legal name. Staff can usually confirm custody, list the charges and say whether bond is set. They won't discuss the facts of the case on the phone.
↑ Back to the question list2. The name won't come up. Why?
Don't panic yet. Plenty of normal reasons can leave a name off the report:
- Booking isn't finished. Prints, photos and forms are done first, sometimes over several hours.
- Released already. Bond money may have changed hands, or the person signed a personal bond.
- In another county. When the arrest happened past the county line, or on another county's warrant, that county usually books them.
- Federal or immigration custody. Those cases follow their own searches, listed further down.
- At a hospital. Someone hurt during an arrest may be treated before booking.
Call the jail at 940-567-2221 or the Sheriff's dispatch at 940-567-2161. Give the full name, date of birth and where the arrest happened.

Locally, adults are held at a single place, the Jack County Jail, 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458, 940-567-2221. People picked up in a nearby county are usually booked in that county's jail instead. Our pages for the closest jails:

- Young County Jail: 315 Cliff Drive N, Graham, TX 76450, 940-549-1555
- Montague County Detention Center: 111 South Grand St, Montague, TX 76251, 940-894-2491

Someone sentenced on a felony leaves for a state unit. Federal and ICE detainees may be housed wherever those agencies have bed space.
↑ Back to the question list4. Booking photos and Jack County mugshots
Open the Jail Population Report and check the entry. If no photo appears there, mugshots can still be requested in writing.
- From the Sheriff. Write up a Public Information Act request, then mail it or carry it to the Sheriff's Office, 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458. State law requires release of basic arrest information (GC 552.108(c)). Replies that need more than ten business days come with a promised date.
- Federal arrests. Federal booking photos are generally not released. The Marshals make an exception now and then, such as a photo of a wanted fugitive.
- From ICE. Photos taken by immigration officers come only through an ICE FOIA request.
Private websites also repost booking photos. Business and Commerce Code ch. 109 says a site that asks $150 or more to delete a record owes you a free fix of anything wrong or incomplete. It may not show expunged records, or ones sealed through nondisclosure, at all.
↑ Back to the question list5. Free release and transfer alerts by phone
Sign up, and you will hear about it. Texas county jails feed a free, statewide notice service called Texas IVSS-Counties. It can also confirm current custody.
- Look someone up by part or all of the name. Signing up for an account isn't required.
- Pick phone, website notices or both, in English or Spanish.
- Notices go out on booking and release, on a move to TDCJ, on escape or death, and whenever a hearing date is added or moved.
- Registration is private. The inmate never learns you signed up.
- Help line, day or night: 866-268-8959.
6. Posting bond: the short version
A magistrate meets the person by hour 48, reads the charge and fixes bond, unless a judge already wrote one on the warrant. Locally, that's usually the Justice of the Peace, at 940-567-2001.
Texas offers three kinds of bond. Cash pays the full figure to the court and comes back when the case ends. A surety bond uses a bondsman, who keeps a fee you pay. A personal bond swaps cash for a written promise to return. Some charges, mostly violent ones, can't get a personal bond, and since a 2025 vote some can be held without bail.
Call the jail at 940-567-2221 for the amount and how to pay. Our bail and bond page has the payment steps, holds that slow release, and refunds.
↑ Back to the question list7. Reading the charge list
Charges often show on the Jail Population Report entry. Phone the jail at 940-567-2221 if the list is unclear. The bond paperwork also names each charge and its level.
After the prosecutor files, the formal charge sits in the clerk's file. Felonies go through the District Clerk, 940-567-2141. For Class A and B misdemeanors, call the County Clerk, 940-567-2111.
Charges can change. Police book on what they think happened, but the prosecutor decides what to file. That decision belongs to the County Attorney on misdemeanors (100 N Main Street, Suite 312, Jacksboro, TX 76458, 940-567-3321). On felonies, it belongs to the 271st District Attorney (101 N Trinity Street, Suite 200, Decatur, TX 76234, 940-627-5257).
↑ Back to the question list8. A court-paid defense lawyer
- During magistration, the person asks for appointed counsel and gets help with the form.
- From there it goes by mail to PO Box 805, Decatur, TX 76234, the coordinator's address.
- Within three working days, a private lawyer from the court's list is named. Capital cases go to a regional office that handles only those.
- The court appointments report shows which lawyer was picked.
Families can hire their own lawyer at any time. If nobody has called after a few days, phone the clerk: 940-567-2141 for a felony, 940-567-2111 for a misdemeanor.
↑ Back to the question list9. Visiting hours and rules at the Jack County lockup
Call 940-567-2221 before heading to FM 3344. Find out the visiting schedule, who must sign up ahead, what not to wear and the guest limit. It's also worth asking if video visits can be done from home or a lobby screen.
Texas jail standards promise every inmate at least two noncontact visits per week. Each one runs 20 minutes or longer. At least one weekly slot falls on an evening or weekend. Each jail also writes rules for visits by an inmate's minor children.
- Bring a valid photo ID.
- Leave tobacco at home. The building is tobacco-free.
- Expect to be on an approved visitor list first.
For more pointers, read our visitation guide.
↑ Back to the question list10. Deposits for snacks, soap and phone time
Inmates use account money for snacks, hygiene items, phone time and other extras. Phone 940-567-2221 to learn the current ways to add funds, such as an online service, a lobby kiosk or a mailed money order. Ask about fees and any limit too.
Always use the full legal name and any booking number. Never mail cash.
Our guide to sending inmate money compares the usual options. The commissary guide lists what that money can be spent on.
↑ Back to the question list11. Calls, tablets and messages from inside
Calls only go one way: out. Most are paid from a prepaid phone account a relative opens, or charged collect. Ask staff at 940-567-2221 which company runs the phones and whether tablets or messaging are available.
A phone is set aside in the booking area under state jail rules, so a new arrival can often make a call soon after booking. Keep in mind that calls are usually recorded, so never discuss the case on the line.
Our inmate phone guide covers prepaid accounts. The inmate messaging guide explains e-messages where they exist.
↑ Back to the question list12. Letters to someone at FM 3344
The jail sits at 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458. Call 940-567-2221 before you write to confirm that letters go there, and how to address them.
Texas jail standards say inmates may receive letters in any number and length, and may write as many as they like. A lawyer's letter is opened only in the inmate's sight, and the search is for contraband alone.
- Use plain paper. Skip stickers, glitter, perfume and anything taped on.
- Send no cash, stamps or checks inside a letter.
- Ask before mailing photos, books or magazines.
Read our inmate mail guide for more.
↑ Back to the question list13. Picking up keys, wallets and clothes
Clothes, a wallet, keys and a phone get bagged and stored at booking. They usually go home with the person on release.
Want to collect something sooner, like car keys? Call 940-567-2221 to see if the person can sign a form letting you pick up the items. Bring photo ID to 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458. Anything seized as evidence is kept for the case and is not part of the property bag.
↑ Back to the question list14. Injuries, medication and sick calls
The jail must provide care to the people it holds. Call 940-567-2221 and tell staff about medicines, allergies, pregnancy or a health condition. Ask how a prescription can be brought in. Staff can't share medical details without consent, but they will take your information.
Booking officers may see signs of mental illness. If so, a 12-hour clock starts for telling a magistrate. An evaluation can be ordered from there (CCP 16.22).
Still worried? Use the jail's own grievance process first. Then you can contact the Texas Commission on Jail Standards: PO Box 12985, Austin, TX 78711-2985, 512-463-5505, or its online complaint form.
↑ Back to the question list15. Is a Jack County warrant out?
Warrants here go out with Sheriff's deputies and with the Constable, 940-567-3194. Phone the Sheriff's Office, 940-567-2161, to find out if one is pending. DPS keeps the state's Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitive list. Felony court settings are on the 271st District Court docket. A lawyer can help someone turn themselves in at 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458 and deal with bond. The other option is asking the clerk who handles the case for a new court date. That clerk for felonies is the District Clerk, 100 N Main Street, Suite 310, Jacksboro, TX 76458, 940-567-2141.
↑ Back to the question list16. Hearing dates and the court calendar
- Felony hearings show on the 271st District Court docket. The District Clerk, 940-567-2141, can confirm them.
- Misdemeanor dates come from the County Clerk, 940-567-2111.
- The Justice of the Peace sets fine-only ticket dates: 940-567-2001.
All three offices share the courthouse at 100 N Main Street, Jacksboro, TX 76458, open weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The statewide re:SearchTX site can give a case number after a free sign-up. IVSS-Counties also sends a notice whenever a hearing gets scheduled or changed. For each step of a case, read our court guide.
↑ Back to the question list17. Tracking a federal prisoner from Fort Worth
A federal case from this corner of Texas is filed in Fort Worth, at the U.S. District Court, 501 West 10th Street, Room 310, Fort Worth, TX 76102, 817-850-6600. The judge holds a detention hearing and chooses: release with conditions, or a cell until trial.
Before sentencing, the Marshals keep custody and often rent space in a county jail. Ask the Marshals' Fort Worth office at 501 West 10th Street, Room 211, Fort Worth, TX 76102, 682-703-4574. The Federal Public Defender, 819 Taylor Street, Room 9A10, Fort Worth, TX 76102, 817-978-2753, represents people who can't pay.
After a sentence is imposed, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator takes over. A BOP register number gives the surest match.
↑ Back to the question list18. Locating a person after an ICE pickup
- Immigration agents may lodge a detainer on the person at the FM 3344 jail using Form I-247A.
- Jailers can then keep them up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released (8 CFR 287.7(d)).
- Texas law requires jails to comply with detainers (CCP 2A.060), and local rules can't weaken that (GC 752.053).
- ICE then collects the person for transfer to one of the agency's detention sites.
- Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator by A-number. Without one, try name plus birth country.
Immigration enforcement for this area runs through the ICE Dallas Field Office, 8101 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247, 972-367-2200. S.B. 8, passed by the Legislature in 2025, sets December 1, 2026 as the last day for each Texas county jail to sign a 287(g) agreement with the federal government. Get an immigration lawyer involved early.
↑ Back to the question list19. After sentencing: finding them in TDCJ
After a felony sentence, the county holds the person until state transport picks them up. Their first stop is an intake unit. There, staff screen health and security needs and then assign a long-term home.
- For state-unit visiting, letters and deposits, open our Texas state prisons page.
- The TDCJ inmate search takes three kinds of input. Use the SID, the TDCJ number, or the surname and first initial. Results refresh on workdays, so a fresh arrival may not appear for a day or more.
20. Arrested before turning 17
Kids aged 10 to 16 skip the adult jail entirely. Police take them to a juvenile board official, a processing office or a detention center. A parent gets notified promptly (FC 52.02). A 17-year-old is an adult under Texas criminal law.
Within two working days of being detained, a youth goes before a judge (FC 54.01), with a lawyer appointed beforehand. The Sheriff's Office, 940-567-2161, can connect you with juvenile probation to learn where the child is. Juvenile cases are filed with the District Clerk at 940-567-2141.
↑ Back to the question list21. Jack County police agencies and phone lines
- Sheriff's Office: patrols the county outside town limits and runs the jail. 1432 FM 3344, Jacksboro, TX 76458. Dispatch and main line 940-567-2161.
