In addition, the Detention Center employs contractual staff including medical, kitchen, and commissary personnel. There are three shifts and each is staffed with 4 training Corporals, 4 Sergeants and 2 Lieutenants. The Detention Center Command staff is comprised of the 4 Captains, Assistant Chief, and a Chief of the Detention Division. The Lubbock County Detention Center (LCDC) is one of the largest direct supervision county detention facilities in Texas.

The Lubbock County Detention Center staff are sticklers for visitors dressing properly when coming to the jail. Don't wear anything seductive, gang related, obscene or trashy. If you do, you won't be allowed to visit. Visitors and offenders who fail to follow Detention Center rules during visitation may lose visitation privileges. Visitors and guests must have a photo ID or other form of identification. Attorney(s) may conduct visitation as well.
Money orders are no longer accepted for inmate accounts. You have to deposit money either online or by telephone. If inquiring about property for an inmate that has been sent to TDCJ (Texas Department of Criminal Justice), and is no longer in our custody, the individual attempting to collect the property will not be given the property. At the time the inmate is being released to TDCJ, he/she will fill out a form designating an individual to pick the property up that was left behind. The inmate will also have to provide contact information and an address for the person he/she has designated. The property will be packed and stored separately until it is picked up. If the property is not picked up within the allotted time, it will be discarded or donated.
Putting money on an inmate's account can be done either online or via a publicly available kiosk that is available in the main lobby of the Lubbock County Detention Center.
Once arrested, the person is taken to Lubbock County Detention Center for booking, a process that confirms identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released on their own recognizance, posted for bail, or held until court.

How Video Visitation Works
SmartJailMail.com provides a two-way, real-time video visitation system which can be used to speak to your loved ones directly in their housing location within the jail.
At some locations you may also use a lobby kiosk at the facility to visit for free when scheduling a local / on-site visit.
Remote visits from home cost 50 cents per minute and are scheduled in 15 or 30 minute increments.

Newspapers
Local or national newspapers may also be mailed to the inmate as long as they are mailed directly from the newspaper publisher.
Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Lubbock County Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address above.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Lubbock County Detention Center standards will be disposed of. No more than three books may be shipped at any one time.
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
