2. No match on the roster?

Usually there's an ordinary explanation:

  • Booking takes time. Paperwork, a photo and a records check come first, so a brand-new arrest may lag behind.
  • They already left. Check the 48-hour release list for anyone bonded out or freed.
  • Spelling. Try part of the surname, a hyphenated or double surname, or a nickname.
  • Another agency has them. A Texas DPS trooper, a federal agent or a nearby county may have taken them somewhere else.

Still stuck? Call the jail at 806-637-2212 and ask for Booking. Statewide, Texas IVSS-Counties also lets you search for someone in a Texas county jail.

3. Other jails near Terry County that may hold them

Adults arrested here are held in a single jail on Tahoka Road: the Terry County Jail, 1311 Tahoka Road, Brownfield, TX 79316, 806-637-2212. If they aren't there, try a nearby county jail:

Anyone under 17 goes to a juvenile center instead, never the adult jail.

4. Mugshots on the Terry County roster

Yes, there are mugshots. The Sheriff's online detention roster shows a small booking photo beside most names. Some entries show a blank stand-in picture instead. Click View Profile to see the full entry.

Want your own copy of a booking photo? Under the Public Information Act, a written request can go by mail to P.O. Box 1106, Brownfield, TX 79316. Texas law makes agencies release basic arrest facts promptly (Gov't Code § 552.108).

Private mugshot sites that charge $150 or more to remove a photo must, at no cost, correct a mistaken listing or take down one that leaves out key facts. They also may not publish anything expunged or sealed by a nondisclosure order. The law does not outlaw every removal fee, though (Bus. & Com. Code ch. 109).

For a booking picture taken by ICE, file a formal ICE records request. Most federal booking pictures stay private, but the Marshals do sometimes put out a photo of a wanted fugitive.

5. Free custody alerts by phone or online

Yes, through Texas IVSS-Counties, which sends free updates about people in county jails. Its 24-hour line is 866-268-8959. Type all or part of a name, pick the right person, and register for updates. An account is optional.

  • Alerts cover booking and release, new or changed court settings, and custody changes like a transfer to state prison.
  • It works in English or Spanish and is free.
  • Your sign-up is never revealed to the inmate.

An older county Sheriff's page still points to VINELink. Texas IVSS-Counties has replaced that service.

6. Bond and release in brief

Two days at most pass between an adult's arrest and a magistrate visit; the person hears the legal warnings and gets a bail amount. The Justice of the Peace is one of the local officials who does this. Texas uses three main kinds of bond: cash, a bondsman's surety bond, and a personal bond, where no money is paid at the start.

The roster shows the bond on each charge, or "No Bond." Before paying, have the jail at 806-637-2212 check for other holds, such as a parole warrant, a warrant from elsewhere in Texas, or an ICE request. Payment methods, bondsmen, refunds and the 2025 bail changes are covered on our bail page.
