House Arrest: He wasn’t Home When they Came to Check. Now What?

Your boyfriend is on house arrest and when the probation officer came to check, he wasn’t home. If he didn’t have permission to be gone, he might be in trouble. He can take the following steps to try and fix it. Get home: As soon as the PO has left, call your boyfriend on the cell phone and tell him the PO was there and he needs to get home immediately. If he has been called into work or had to go to the emergency room, he should get some paperwork showing where he was. Call in: As soon as he knows they were there looking for him he needs to call the probation office. He can do this before he even gets home. If the call does not get forwarded to his PO he should leave a message and explain where he was and why he didn’t get permission to leave. Such as emergency room or called into work. Truthfulness: If he simply forgot to get permission he should say so. He is not the first and won’t be the last offender to forget to call and ask permission before picking up an extra shift at work. Honesty goes a long way. Offer: He should offer to meet them at the probation office immediately or back at the house, whichever is convenient for them.  This gives the probation officer the opportunity to drug test your boyfriend and see that he is not trying to hide anything Final thoughts: Technically, if your boyfriend was not home and they came to check, he could be violated and put in jail. Many probation officers, however, are willing to work with offenders as long as it is a very rare occurrence; the offender can pass a drug test and is honest about what happened.
