Although the Coffee County Jail has a license for 126 inmates, it frequently has to accommodate many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails have a monthly turnover of at least 40%, another 30% every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and about 8-9% of inmates who stay between six and twelve months. Inmates held longer than a year usually face serious charges like rape or murder. Those cases take time to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in Coffee County remain in custody at the Coffee County facility much longer.
Approximately 2,520 offenders are arrested and detained by Coffee County law enforcement agencies every year.
The Coffee County Jail is part of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office complex at 1133 E McKinnon Street in New Brockton, roughly halfway between the county’s two courthouse towns, Enterprise and Elba. The jail opened in 1993. In 2023 the sheriff reported room for about 120 men and 30 women, with the women housed in a separate dormitory. The jail holds people from across the county who are waiting for trial, serving a county sentence, or waiting to be moved to a state or federal facility after a longer sentence. The sheriff’s office answers 24 hours a day at (334) 894-5535, and the jail can also be reached at (334) 894-6200.
People taken to the Coffee County Jail start at the booking desk in New Brockton. Rule 4.3 of the Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure calls for an initial appearance before a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours. Coffee County shares the Twelfth Judicial Circuit with Pike County. Cases are posted on Alacourt (v2.alacourt.com). The sheriff’s website, coffeeso.us, has a Most Wanted page. If you think a warrant is out, contact the sheriff’s office or an attorney before turning yourself in.
Bail is available in most Alabama cases. Judges may deny it in capital cases when the proof is evident or the presumption great. Aniah’s Law (2022) also allows a judge to deny it after a pretrial detention hearing for murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson and robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain offenses against children; and terrorism. In May 2026 voters passed Amendment 1 with 81.6% support, adding solicitation, attempt or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Otherwise the court can release someone on personal recognizance or an unsecured appearance bond, or require a secured bond in cash, property or through a professional bail company. Rule 7.2’s recommended ranges, such as $5,000–$30,000 for a Class B felony or $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, guide the amount, but judges can depart from them. Call the jail for the bond amount and accepted payments.

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Coffee County Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Coffee County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the payee the jail names (check with the jail first) and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order. Never mail cash or a personal check.
