Search for an Inmate or Active Arrest Warrant in Greene County

Greene County Jail

You can reach the 56-bed Greene County Jail day or night at 205-372-3152 with questions about an inmate.

Everyone arrested in this county, whether for a misdemeanor or a felony, is brought to this facility for booking and processing. When the charges warrant it, they remain here until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or held until their trial reaches a verdict.

See who is currently in custody by searching the roster with the inmate search tool.

Inmates who are sentenced to less than one year serve their sentence here in the county. Those who get a longer sentence go to the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Everything you need to stay in contact is on this page, including the visitation schedule, how to fund an inmate’s account, send mail, receive phone calls, use voicemail, email and text, rent a tablet, post bail, and order commissary.

The jail ID or booking number is worth saving, since it’s needed for mail and other services. If you can’t find it online, call Greene County Jail at 205-372-3152.

Greene County Jail Inmate Search

If you have questions about finding an inmate in the Greene County Jail, how jail rosters work, or what happens after an arrest and booking, our Frequently Asked Questions and Answers can help. If they don’t, call 205-372-3152.

Even though the Greene County Jail is licensed for 56 inmates, it is often forced to accommodate many more, especially on weekends. In most city and county jails, at least 40% of the population turns over each month, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months. About 8-9% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Offenders who stay longer than a year are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder, and because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, anyone arrested in Greene County on such charges remains in the Greene County facility much longer.

Approximately 1,120 offenders are arrested and detained every year by Greene County law enforcement agencies.

About the Greene County Jail

If someone you love was arrested in Greene County, they are most likely at the Greene County Jail, 951 Finches Ferry Road in Eutaw. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office runs this 56-bed, medium-security jail, which books people arrested on misdemeanor and felony charges. It holds people awaiting trial and those serving sentences of under a year; longer sentences are served in the state system. The jail answers around the clock at (205) 372-3152, and the sheriff’s office is at (205) 372-3242.

Greene County is part of the 17th Judicial Circuit, with Marengo and Sumter counties. After booking, Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3 requires an initial appearance before a judge without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours. The Alabama Constitution gives most defendants a right to bail, though capital cases can be held without it when the proof is evident, and Aniah’s Law (2022) lets judges deny bail after a hearing for charges including murder, rape, first-degree kidnapping, robbery, burglary, arson, domestic violence, and terrorism. In May 2026 voters added conspiracy, solicitation, or attempt to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Judges start from the Rule 7.2 schedule (for example, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor) and may set bail above or below it. A person may be released on recognizance, an unsecured bond, or a secured bond using cash, real estate, or a licensed bondsman. Call the jail for the amount and accepted payment.

Visits last 30 minutes, one per week, with up to two guests who are on the person’s visitor list. Posted times are 9–11 a.m. and 2–4 p.m. every day, with an extra 6–8 p.m. window Monday through Friday; hours can differ by housing unit, so call first. Bring government-issued photo ID and wear non-revealing clothes. Minors need a parent or legal guardian.

Personal and legal mail goes to 400 Morrow Avenue, Eutaw, AL 35462, with the person’s full name. Write in blue or black ink; publications must come from the publisher, and hardcover books are refused. Deposits go through CorrectPay online, by phone at (855) 836-3364, or at a VendEngine kiosk, and commissary is supplied by Kellwell. Phone accounts are set up with NCIC at ncic.com or (800) 943-2189.

No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. The Marathon at 99 Greensboro St is closest, and Love’s Travel Stop is at 7561 Mesopotamia St by the interstate. Hardee’s shares that Love’s address, and Main Street Grill is downtown at 100 Main St.
