About the San Diego George Bailey Detention Facility

San Diego George Bailey Detention Facility is located at 446 Alta Rd. Ste. 5300, San Diego, CA 92158. The phone for the jail is 619-210-0385.

This facility, the largest in the area, is supposed to hold 1,380 inmates, although the jail is often overcrowded, like so many others. At times it can hold close to 1,800 inmates. This is a male-only facility. There are 189 staff members assigned to this jail.

San Diego George Bailey Detention Facility is a maximum-security facility. The inmates are divided into six different areas based on how much risk they pose (their risk classification) and what their particular medical needs are. Each inmate is given a wrist band that identifies what risk category they fall into using a system of color coding.

If you need to locate an inmate, the Sheriff's roster will be a useful search tool.

For their medical needs, inmates can receive attention from doctors via telemedicine, because the on-site medical services don't meet all of the needs of prisoners, and there is no hospital system that is close enough to the jail to be practical in terms of the transportation issues surrounding moving inmates in and out of the jail, mostly cost and safety concerns.

The jail is run by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, and their website outlines specific visitation schedules and rules for visitation which need to be followed closely if you wish to interact with an inmate.
