The TGK Correctional Center maintains an average of 1300 offenders in custody on any given day. The TGK Correctional Center has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Miami-Dade County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 129,160 offenders.

Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, known across Miami-Dade simply as “TGK,” sits at 7000 NW 41st Street, Miami, FL 33166, just northwest of Miami International Airport. It is run by the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), a county department, not the Sheriff’s Office. The main number is (786) 263-5341, and MDCR’s general inmate information line is (786) 263-7000. TGK is a high-rise jail with 22 housing units. The department’s 2024 federal PREA audit listed a design capacity of 1,561 and an average daily population of about 1,100, holding both men and women. MDCR as a whole holds several thousand people each day who are either awaiting trial or serving county sentences of 364 days or less; anyone sentenced to more than a year goes to the Florida Department of Corrections.
TGK is the system’s assessment center, and it is also where people are released. MDCR says releases happen from TGK between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day, whether or not the person has a ride, so plan to be waiting outside. The same campus houses MDCR’s Boot Camp program for young offenders ((786) 263-5810), and the jail provides on-site medical and mental health care. Property can be picked up at the TGK Property Room Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and 3–5 p.m.; after 30 days call (786) 263-5355. Details are on MDCR’s bond and release page.
After an arrest, the person sees a judge at first appearance within 24 hours, as Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.130 requires. Miami-Dade is in Florida’s 11th Judicial Circuit. Under Article I, Section 14 of the Florida Constitution, most people have a right to pretrial release on reasonable conditions. The exceptions are capital or life felonies where the proof is evident or the presumption great, and cases where no conditions can protect the community. Before first appearance, jails use the Florida Supreme Court’s 2026 uniform bond schedule (AOSC25-69), which is in effect January 1 through December 31, 2026. It sets minimum amounts, and the 11th Circuit’s chief judge can set higher local amounts. The first-appearance judge isn’t bound by the schedule, and some serious charges require a judge’s review before release (sections 903.011, 903.046 and 907.041, Florida Statutes). Many minor misdemeanors end with a notice to appear instead of jail time. Miami-Dade also has Pretrial Services, which can recommend release without money bail.
To post bond, call (786) 263-7000 for the amount and where and how to pay it. MDCR won’t recommend a bail bond agent. If you hire one, Florida law (section 648.33) requires the agent to charge exactly the premium rate filed with and approved by the state, no more and no less, so ask for the premium in writing. Worried about an open warrant? Try the FDLE statewide wanted persons search, but not every warrant appears there.
Visits are remote video visits through ViaPath (GTL) at miamidade.gtlvisitme.com. You must be on the inmate’s approved Master Visitation List, then register with ViaPath and allow up to 24 hours for approval. Visits can be booked up to seven days ahead, with no same-day visits, and they start and end automatically. Only the registered visitor may appear on screen, and you must be properly dressed. Fees and time slots aren’t published on MDCR’s page, so check the ViaPath site or call Inmate Visitation at (786) 263-4119. The full rules are in MDCR’s video visitation rules.
Look up the person with MDCR’s online inmate search, which gives you the booking number you’ll need. Letters go by U.S. Mail to: Full Name #Booking Number, Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department, PO Box 20527, Tampa, FL 33622. Only plain white lined paper is allowed. Greeting cards, postcards, photos, stamps, colored paper and padded mailers are refused. Securus handles phone accounts (AdvancePay, (800) 844-6591) and eMessaging. Trust account money goes through TouchPay at touchpayonline.com or (866) 232-1899, using facility number 233101. There is also a lobby kiosk at TGK that takes cash and cards, open daily 8:30 a.m.–9 p.m. except Wednesdays.
We couldn’t confirm a Metrobus stop at the jail entrance, so use Miami-Dade Transit’s trip planner or plan to drive. Nearby, Shell at 7201 NW 36th St and another Shell at 7900 NW 36th St in Doral sell fuel. For a quick meal, try McDonald’s at 7405 NW 36th St or Pollo Campero at 3730 NW 79th Ave in Doral.

How Do You Visit an Inmate in the TGK Correctional Center? What is the Schedule?
