Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center

With 50 beds for the four counties that access the facility, the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center accepts both male and female juvenile offenders who are determined to require detention. They will remain in the facility until their first court date where it will be determined if they will be further detained until their sentence, or if they will wait for the results at home. Before using the facility, there are other alternatives that are considered including home detention, community service, and other interventions. Once it has been determined that further detention is required, they will remain at this facility or be transferred to a larger one with additional resources. Most youth will remain a resident here for an average of 13 days during which they will receive regular classwork in the onsite classroom from licensed teachers, counselling for any past trauma or mental health concerns, anger management and life skills, and opportunities to engage in healthy social interactions, and any other required services. Mail: 3840 Old Deland Road Daytona Beach, FL 32124 All letters will be checked for contraband upon their arrival at the facility, where they are only accepted through the US Postal Service. Youth are provided with supplies for two letters each week, as well as time to both read and write letters, and are permitted to write more letters if the postage is supplied by the family. Phones: Phone calls are provided each week, though the privilege may be removed for rule breaking or other infractions. The Florida Constitution entitles most defendants in Volusia County to reasonable pretrial release. Release can be denied for capital or life felonies when the proof is evident, or when no conditions would protect the community. Many misdemeanor and traffic arrests end with a notice to appear. For other offenses, bond starts at the amount on the Florida Supreme Court’s uniform statewide bond schedule.

The easiest way to learn an offender’s bail at the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center is to call 386-238-4780. For a general idea, compare the charge to the Florida uniform statewide bond schedule for 2026. Circuits may set higher local amounts, and a judge at first appearance, usually within 24 hours, can set a different bond. The county takes cash, surety bonds, and property bonds, and can also release an offender on personal recognizance.

While licensed for 90 inmates, the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center is often forced to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Florida turn over at least 35-40% of their population monthly, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months. Approximately 8-9% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder, and because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in custody at one of the Volusia County facilities much longer.

Volusia County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain roughly 32,340 offenders each year.
