Located in Crestview, Florida, the Okaloosa Regional Juvenile Detention Center is the main housing location for all of the juvenile offenders in both Walton County and Okaloosa County. The facility houses both the male and female juvenile offenders while they are waiting for their trial or sentence, or they are waiting for transfer to another facility. During any length of stay it is mandatory for each of the juveniles to attend class Monday to Friday when a licensed teacher from the local school board will ensure they remain on pace with their classmates during their absence. They are also expected to participate in physical education similar to the schools, and group activities, recreational activities, and any counseling or other treatments that they have been scheduled to do. Mail: Letters may be both received and sent through the postal system each day, with no limit on how much they may correspond with others. Phones: Telephones are provided in the common areas of the housing units and parents and guardians are approved contacts for each of the students, who are allowed to call at least once a week and as often as daily. Incoming calls may be accepted during certain evening hours. Visiting: To ensure that families are able to visit there are two visiting days provided, both Sunday 1pm-2pm and Thursday 7pm-8pm.
