Juveniles in Clark County who are arrested or require detention will find themselves at the juvenile detention center. Youth in this facility are between 8 and 18 years of age and are determined to require restricted movements. They may remain until their court date or for a set amount of time provided in their adjudication. As the largest juvenile center in the state, it has space for up to 192 juveniles. While in the facility the youth will have access to many programs including self-esteem, drug awareness, guidelines to positive behavior, health, hygiene, gang intervention, life skills, conflict resolution, current event, arts, crafting, horticulture, and culture awareness. Education is provided by the Clark County School District and classes run each weekday. Classes include physical education, special education, and adult education with all of the core subjects. Both a medical unit and a mental health team are onsite to provide necessary care to each of the residents. It is the main goal of the facility to meet all the needs of the youth in it’s care as well as to protect the safety and security of the staff, students, and their community by detaining any juvenile who is determined to be a safety risk to themselves or to others in the community.
