About the Roosevelt County Detention Center
Located within the city of Portales, NM, the Roosevelt County Detention Center houses all adult inmates in the area to protect the safety of the community and the inmates. As a full service facility, it is in operation around the clock every day of the year, and houses inmates who are sentenced to be incarcerated for under one year. Those with longer sentences will be transferred to an alternative facility. It also holds those who are awaiting their bail to be paid or who are unable to make bail and are waiting for an alternative form of release or for their trial. All efforts are made to ensure that inmates have the support needed for rehabilitation, including contact with their friends and family outside of the jail through mail, phone calls, and visits. All mail must have both the address and return address and will be checked for contraband, but the amount of mail an inmate can send or receive is not limited.
