Knox County has 3 locations for incarceration, this, the 120-bed Knox County Work Release Center as well as the Knox County Jail and the Knox County Detention Center, each of which is operated by the Sheriff’s Office.
While incarcerated at the Knox County Work Release Center inmates will be provided with all basic needs including healthy meals, recreation, mental health support, exercise opportunities, laundry, and more.
Fewer programs may be engaged with at this location as each of the inmates will be in the work release program.
Work release provides an opportunity for those who are close to release or who are charged with minor charges and not requiring full time incarceration to maintain a job during their sentence. For this purpose, they are able to leave the building and attend their regular job, or work for the county, and they are able to have additional personal items in their housing space in order to complete their job.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Knox County Work Release Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Scholastic, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Workman, John Wiley & Sons, Dover, Candlewick, WW Norton, Chronicle, Tindale House and SureShot Books.
